Just as said on the AGN, what do we need?
WE had plattons in PS1, and thats pretty much it. Everything else was manually done via /c, /sl and voice stuff like Teamspeak. But the big quesiton really is: What do we need to be effective? What coult potentially make platoons obsolete? Or should platoons be evolved in order to serve their purpose better? Firs of all, lets analyze what we did in Planetside 1 to figure out what would be useful, and then get some ideas going. So, this is a community wide brainstorm session. GO! I join after the AGN :P |

My biggest concerns right now is the Command system being abused by idiotic players that are doing the whole "Popularity Contest" thing that caused so many issues in among the Empires on Planetside.
It was just discussed on the AGN Broadcast tonight about the same issue a couple of our community members(Basti especially ) did suggest that there should be NO reward or skills for being a Commander. I think that would help manage the ability to keep the douches from causing issues again that is still a hazard to this day on Planetside. |

As I understand it, the commander skills are skills you train for just like skills for your gun. I think I agree with you about one thing. You don't need to actually give out powers based on how many followers you have. Getting followers is it's own reward because it means you have more people who follow you and are willing to complete missions for you.

What was described on the broadcast was not accurate to what I understand of the system. What I understand is that you will subscribe to commanders and that will simply allow you to see their Command Tools. You'll see their chat, their waypoints and missions, etc. Then, when you complete the missions, the commander gets XP. Bad commander, bad missions: No XP. Good commander, good missions: They get XP.
If this was a real military structure, we'd have no choice. We'd be given our commanders and we'd have to follow their orders. Planetside let's us choose.

Oh man, why is this a topic? It was covered more than enough in the AGN and chat. We just need to wait til beta, see how this missions and follower system holds up with hundreds of players, if it doesn't work they'll fix it or revert to a more tried and tested system. Simple
Either way, the overruling thing here is "wait til beta". |

The ones that project real leadership skills that change the tide of the battle. |

I'm very interested to know how they're going to work the "twitter feed" command orders system.
When I give orders that are obeyed, I will get XP as well as the grunts who carried out those orders. If there is no cost involved in issuing orders, it'll be a spamfest. Turn left [lots of XP for everyone] Turn right [Lots of XP for everyone] shoulder arms [lots of xp for everyone] |

I firmly believe command and communication should be based on people who actually have people TO command - namely squad leaders and platoon leaders.
It's organic that way and allows people who are running squads and platoons and the means to communicate with one another and organize. Nitwits that are off solo shouldn't get a voice. It needs to scale with squad/platoon size. I need to think more on it but I like it being organic and based on current squads/platoons. If someone has 30 people at their command, they certainly have more power to influence and coordinate than someone with 2. It would encourage people to squad up and organize also. |
