It appears the development team and us as fans thinking two dimensionally on how roles are assigned. Really big things such as squad leader respawns and ammunition deployments are done far too simply. it appears that we've forgotten that this PlanetSide battle is actually from all dimensions: sea, land, air, and space.
Deployments from space are far more essential now than ever before. They also fix a lot of problems. Instead of deploying a person on the squad leader immediately, you could deploy them in a drop pod with a varying degree of landing precision from space. Instead of throwing down an ammo box or have an engineer build it, a squad leader or CR could order one from a deployment station in space. These deployments, of course, would have their drawbacks. Vapor trails from entering the atmosphere let other people know that someone is dropping something somewhere. Getting from space to the ground takes time. You can't deploy ammo or respawn in buildings - deployments would land outside. Landing could be noisy. The solutions are all in the lore, and it's not just "Nanites". It's a space battle, we should be Warhammer 40king it. Last edited by Shanesan; 2012-03-12 at 02:24 PM. |

Is it? That would fix the BF:BC2 respawn system in leaps and bounds - their demo didn't show that, probably because it wasn't implemented at that time. That's good news if that's true. I thought that was going to be only part of "instant action" like in PS1.

Since its kind of on subject, I always thought it would be better that the faction 'sanctuaries' are actually capitol ships that orbit the planet, which makes more sense when they switch the links around. And the drop pods are from these ships instead of a HART.

it was mentioned by the devs somewhere that spawn on leader would use droppods.
and in one of the latest interviews matt said something about hotdroppers could spec to hotdrop in an aimable droppod! so the squadleader drop pod will certainly be controllable either. or at least you could spec in that option.
