Base Types new - ones old ones.

We know Biolabs are back and Tech Plants seem a given, but what should their be?

Cosmetically, I really like the idea of a Military Training Center. A base with lots of barracks buildings (as spawn rooms) and all the decor of a training center. It could house the Virtual Reality Range that we'll be missing out on with no Sanctuaries and it would be downright fun invading an enemy base and getting out on the firing range with the holographic bad guys. It could have an obstacle course, the mess hall and all the other facilities. Group shower anyone?

What other types of bases would you like to see?

Also, should the bases given the blanket benefit to all other owned bases on that continent, or should their benefit be isolated to that facility?

I like cities as bases.

A small town that is a base or Large city that has sectors that are bases.

It will be good for close quarter combats.

i would like to have one base in the game with almost the old base layout, as a tribute to ps1. only one base on one cont. spiced up with all the beauty of ps2, but the general design of an old techplant.

But all of the PS1 bases were terrible clusterfucks.

As far as "should the benefits be distributed to all facilities on the same continent?" I'm almost inclined to say "no."

If you limited it somewhat, you could force some of those interesting logistical/supply line kinds of behaviors. I think it would be strategically interesting.

However, I suspect to do so would be one of those design decisions that goes against the PS*2* grain, because if you force people to actually go TO their tech plant to pull their vehicle, you're not getting them into the fight quicker.

So I expect that, at most, facility benefits will likely expand to any facility in contiguous hex ownership with other facilities.

If you watch the GDC footage Higby talks about how he would have to go back to the biolab to spawn his reaver normally. It has also been stated that galaxies can only be spawned at footholds and tech plants. So I think it's safe to say facility benefits don't "spread" at all.

I thought he made that comment about the Biolab since he was spawning at a tower or an AMS most of the time.

As for Galaxies -- Dropship Centers never "spread" in PS1, either; that doesn't mean you had to go to Tech Plants to pull a Vanny. My guess is Galaxies require a different terminal that's simply not at locations other than Tech Plants and Footholds, just like the Dropship Center. The only change would be, dropship terminals are at Tech Plants now.

I'd like to see an abandoned shipyard/spaceport somewhere with the rusting hulks of the original colony ships, with old tech and only partially functioning systems.

For example there'd be no spawn tubes since rebirthing hadn't been invented yet, so gals would be the only spawn points for all empires. And you'd have floodlights that flicker on an off at night, holes in some of the walls that people could walk through, partially collapsed levels in some buildings, doors that may not be locked or that won't unlock right away, terms that don't always work or take a variable amount of time to pull gear, etc.

Yeah there are a lot of options for bases. I have a feeling we will be much more limited to overall designs at launch as in only a very few number of base types. But i think each type will have variants such as walls/no walls, or rearrangement of individual parts of the base etc. And more base types will come later down the road with new content patches.

They dont need to do the vr stuff in a new base type, they could just use the billion sancs they have, cause they didnt actually remove em like they said, they just did the opposite and gave us one on every cont. Kind of like getting rid of that one white spot on your clothes by making the entire thing polka dotted.

Re: Base Types new - ones old ones.

Communications centre (not quite Interlink, tbh)
Radar base (enhances AA radar for instance)
Airfields (comparible to DSCs, but more varieties)
Storage facilities (vehicles/ammo/nanites/containers, you name it)
Interconnected bunker systems built into the terrain (think Atlantic Wall or Maginot Line)
Trenches connected to bunkersystems
Fortresses
Checkpoints (at roads)
(Watch)towers/Lighthouse
Repair stations
Docks (naval)
Ports (naval)

Civilian (resource generation):
Ore mines (will be there for resources I suppose)
Drilling stations
Off-shore platforms
Silos
Refineries
Factories
Nanite recycling plant (garbage/old unit disposal - enhances resource regeneration)
Farms (idea that food is actually used - could even affect spawn times or health - perhaps Bio Labs/Bio Domes are in part for this?)
Water and waste cleansing facilities

Hah that would be baddass, i would actually prefer it to be a run down mess. Half destroyed. Maybe in between the newer bigger better bases. Almost like they moved next door and these things became run down.

But As for new bases, i would prefer destroyed cities. I know they say theyre in, in some form. But i think theyre going for large square shells. I want loads of nooks and crannies for people to hide in, i want to roll my convoy through one of these cities. Only to have every window and doorway light up with rocket fire, and we are annhilated.

that´s what i´d love to see!
i didn´t mention the run down mess theme for the retrobase because ps2 is not supposed to be in a timeline after ps1, but having an old style base all broken, in ruins and partly covered in plants would be too cool!
a lot like they did in portal 2.

and about the city ruins... you can´t imagine how much i am looking forward to see first screenshots of the cityruins with broken highways continent that was mentioned once.

All I want to see is unique bases. I don't care if you have 2 tech bases on the same continent. I want them to look unique. I don't want to run across the map only to go into a facility that looks Identical to the one I just fought in to the north.

Also, it would be cool as others stated if they would incorporate facility's into burnt out facility partially destroyed or a facility built into a major city.

Last but not least, I would like to see 1 facility. Just 1 that looks like a facility from PS1. Just upgraded with all the latest bells and whistles. Expanded halls for players to get around and such. I think that would be really cool of the PS devs.
