ATV only areas

I think it would be a nice addition to some dense forest areas.

Say there is a two tank wide path between two bases, lightning can veer somewhat off the path, but ATVs and infantry are the only ones that can take some of the denser paths.

Random inspiration

I really like this idea. That's a crazy vid btw :P

Planetside actually did have dense enough forests in some areas to escape into with an ATV while pursuing tanks got stuck, and I'd definitely like to see that again in PS2.

Another cool option would be building natural "ramps" into the world that ATVs could bound over to bypass rock walls or other obstacles.

When I read your topic title I was like no, but I do like where you are going with this. Maybe caverns as well that vehicles can't get into (not ps1 caverns) but caves that are part of the map and offer alternate or "back" routes to an area of interest. Caves could be both above and below ground level. But if they can work this I would think this would provide an interesting place to battle and defend. Like a dense forest behind a base that vehicles can't defend so foot soldiers have to setup a perimeter. The dense part requires tree coverage that doesn't show the forest floor from the sky (so air can't farm).

I think it was mentioned in one of the dev interviews that there will be ramps that let ATVs jump over base walls and into an enemy base, which sounds epic. I can picture a whole squad of ATVs racing up a ramp and jumping en-mass into the enemy base. I'm sure there will be plenty of ATV-only shortcuts like this, since apparently a boosting ATV can achieve the most airtime of all the land vehicles.

Yeah I'd like to see some paths that are specifically designed for ATV's, similar to the path along the north side of the northern cliff on Ascension or that valley up the centre of Ishundar.

Stuff that cuts time off your travel from key locations would be cool. I'm not saying everywhere, but enough spots to give the ATV playstyle a tiny bonus for exploration and driving skill.

Re: ATV only areas

I remember mention of different transmissions that you can put in for low and high gear ratios, which help ATVs travel where no other vehicle can go. I'm pretty sure the devs are implementing things similar to your suggestion Pollo Jack, just can't wait to get in and check it out! I believe the video with the info was the Nanite Systems vehicle webcast.

Wasn't there a pic tweeted by T-Ray that showed some crazy jungle setting with tight paths and huge amounts of vegetation? It would seem they're working on that or implementing areas that CAN have the capabilities to do it.

When you make areas were certain vehicle activity can be expected, don't act surprised if there is a squad there waiting on you.

Yeah, or a minefield...

*squad of ATVs jump into base*
*ATV parts rain from the sky for the next few minutes*

I'd love to see lots of opportunities for ATV vehicle play. Narrow paths along cliffs and short cuts through caves that greatly reduce time to a base or lead onto a jump over the enemy walls. Paths that but are difficult to navigate.

If the Devs really want to push flying ATVs....then expect that mines will not be set off by ATV's.

If you are suggesting certain paths or shortcuts that are only accessible by foot or ATV, that could be an interesting idea. On the other hand, if you are suggesting an entire area that is only accessible by ATV and infantry, seems like a poor man's version of instancing to me.
