Playstyles and outfits...

So, there's plenty of different outfits out there that are primarily Air Assault, Infantry, MAX, Support, etc...Some of the bigger ones coordinate, but for the most part outfits tend to stick to one thing or another and will deviate just for fun when they get bored.

Am I the only one waiting to see how the game caters to each play style before choosing an outfit? I was a pretty damn good pilot/infil/armor gunner/CE, medium to good infantryman. However, that doesn't mean that I'll be a damn good pilot in PS2. I may end up enjoying the infantry battles far more, and role MAX/Rexo. Or I may swap to full time armor/CE. It seems like everyone else is already planning on a specifically defined role on the battlefield though...focusing in too much instead of looking around at everything the game has to offer.

Discuss...

edit - dammit, forgot to put the outfit part into the poll. Just post one of the following 3 options in addition to voting:

1. Yup, I'm dedicated to my outfit/future outfit no matter what happens.
2. Pretty good idea of outfit. They cater to my proposed style, but we'll see when the game starts.
3. No idea/don't care/rolling solo.

Personally, I'll likely be on NC Emerald, rolling Air Cav/MA/CE/Infil. More to be determined once I figure out my playstyle in this game.

War Machine is going to focus on armorer ground combat, but we do plan to have one or two gunships flying cover and we will also have Jump Jet troopers filling up our Party Busses.

So while the Vanguard will be our signature vehicle, I will say definitively that we are not exclusive to it.

Granted, I only played PS1 last month and it's down to not a whole lot of people. But from what I did see, travel to an enemy base is quick and at that point defenders are door camping. You need outdoor battles to justify Air Outfit existences, I wonder what they will be doing to prevent this so that people can actually have a need to specialize.

Otherwise even air outfits will need to practice throwing their bodies at camped doors.

I suspect that infantry roles and vehicle specializations won't really override each other.

I don't plan on restricting myself to one class/vehicle - I'll be doing whatever the mood/situation calls for.

Some nights I might exclusively fly, some nights I might exclusively play gunner, some nights I'll switch it up every time I die. As long as I'm having fun

I get the feeling that most of my cert points will be going towards one of three categories of things: Engineer-as-infantry stuff (deployable cover and turrets, baby!), Sunderer (particularly transport and convoy support enhancing certs), and Liberator.

Playtime-wise, when the above isn't called for, I expect MAX and LA to be my go-to backups.

None of that is especially solid, but it's based on what gets me excited and what I've enjoyed in the past.

I don't agree that most outfits stick to one style.

Outcasters, primarily used to Gal Drop. However, when that didn't work, as it often didn't, we would resort to armour and then in base combat would be rexo+mcg.

I'm not sure how things will pan out in ps2, we will have to see.

Almost every outfit that was serious in PS1 had a division for every play style.

I know for a fact I will return to my trusty Magrider as soon as I jump in the game. I imagine I will spec into most infantry roles like Light Assault and Heavy Assault. However, whenever there is a need I imagine I'll be spending the majority of my time in a Magrider, hopefully as a dedicated Driver with a gunner using the main cannon (please allow this devs).

Oh. With regards to outfit, given what I stated for playstyle...

Unless there's a really fantastic allies or subdivisions of outfit system that allows for good levels of cooperation and organization amongst groups with different "outfit perks," I'll probably gravitate towards an outfit oriented towards combined arms infantry play with light vehicle support. Gotta find my passengers somewhere, right?

Got to agree here.

There were many dedicated outfits in PS1 but the ones that actually made a difference were the ones that just did whatever was necessary at the time.

yeah im not sure yet.
this is the first game that i am seriously considering an engineer type class. seems like they are going to have the greatest influence over the shape of a battle and also being able to repair vehicles, and since my other interest is in flying, wouldn't be a bad thing to have. i am also interested in seeing how the leadership turns out. Between those i will have plenty to do.

Gal pilot 4life. I've almost always played logistics support.. AMS driver/ANT driver/Gal Pilot and later on Lodestar pilot.

So whatever outfit is going to do that I am in.

(Also sniper, depending how fun that is)

Planetside 1 sniping was the funnest sniping in any shooter I have ever played. I hate sniping in every other shooter.

If planetside 2 sniping works anything like PS1 sniping I'll definitely do that a lot. Sadly the chances of it being anything different than modern shooters like COD or BF3 are almost nonexistent
