2 man kill teams

I know its way too early to know how squad tactics and mission goals will react to certain combinations of specialists and team members, but I was thinking earlier on this and wanted some opinions.

Ok, depending on the way missions work and the relation of squads types and size to missions do any of you see a two man sniper team (spotter/guard & shootist) being effective?

Most of the talk about missions have been about base attacks and the like. Will there perhaps be straight assasinations? Convoy intercepts? Head on meetings between 2 equal forces?
Straight airstrikes? Mosquito dogfights?

I must say I know squat about how the missions are going to be generated and managed (and honestly haven't looked into it as much as I probably should), what the restrictions and requirements will be etc., but I'm curious to see if you all picture fairly good sized missions (10 or more PC characters) on average or varying types from solo's to 50+? In addition, what types of missions can we expect since depending on what you're killing and how, changes squad requirements dramatically.

Just a topic for discussion while we wait and wait and wait and....

I dont know much about missions, and I dont there there has been a ton said about them and how they will work. But I'd say a team of snipers would be very effective

hrm... two man team maybe sitting out in the middle of no where hiding doing a little damage if like a small group of enemy troops happened to walk by... but i couldn't see them doing too much to a well defended base...

yeah, admittedly against a base or other enemy established area, a sniper team wouldnt be the way to take over or defeat it outright.

I'm more interested in assasination/selective target elimination as a mission type...or 'other than base incursion' types of missions....if any.

haha yeah that would be awesome to get a mission that picks a random fairly valuable player in one of the other empires and tells you his current general position and his name and you have to go kill him... would have to have the advanced targetting implant but would be a fun thing to do...

A couple snipers would make excellent defenders in disputed territory. They don't have a vehicle or outpost to show up on radar, they can harrass any ground troops that pass thru and report any heavy vehicle or air traffic back to the nearest base.

Snipers are the single most effective harrying force around. They are the cheapest form of attritional war. On the average one sniper will always be able to kill at least 2-5 enemy soldiers before being killed himself. They are not as effective for most sustained offensive operations, but they are wicked when it comes to slowing enemy infantry attacks and or messing with enemy occupational efforts.

agreed.

said same team geared towards anti-vehicle attacks instead of anti-personnel could also be pretty effective I think.

maybe/probably not nearly as effective against hardened targets like tanks but I can see them being pretty effective against buggies and bikes...and quite probably light aircraft.

it would surely take a bit more tactics and thought than just popping a wayward soldier with a bolt however. but with the effective ranges on the anti-vehicle weps listed in the 'long range' category, I think it could surely work.

and yet, its still all theory.

my brother and I did this for awhile in a few different games. we work great as a team and had some of the best times seeing just what the two of us could get away with using stealth and covering each other....that and some really sneak tricks.

mining the opposing bases and airstrips. trapping areas of troop flow, power systems sabotage...that kinda stuff.

2 men arent nearly as easily noticed as a troop of 5 or 10 or 1000....nor are there as many chances for mistakes. that gives you alot of room to work.
keeping it at 2 makes it easier for you each to keep an eye on the other and stand guard while the other sets the traps or what have you.

fun stuff
