Why limit it to 14-16 characters?!

And yes, I "get" that this could in theory assist someone looking to force my password through, it isn't a concern for me. the password limits are stated on account creation.

Your password could be as long as pi and it could still be stolen.
Nobody is actually 'hacking' account passwords, that would take an obscenely long amount of time. So your 25+ digit uber password of doom is just as useful as the abridged sensible version. |

if say, my account were actually breached it would take me about two minutes to have my credit card shut down and it isn't that hard for me to regain access to my account because you'd also have to breach other security measures to take full control of it. If you manage to do that, I have other, far larger problems on my mind.

And what I'm saying is that how long or complex your password is changes nothing in regards to your account's security. So why bitch about 14 vs 140 character passwords when the weakest link in the entire chain is the system storing and validating the password?
Thousands of accounts didn't get hacked. Nobody that has that kind of hacking ability would bother. Someone hacked the weak link in the chain. Even an 8 digit password is plenty secure enough. Disclaimer: My passwords are not 8 digits. |
