All the nominations and prizes are great and Purrfectstorm looks so good with all those badges on their wall, but the game went pretty unnoticed...
If you google for 'best in show' or 'best of e3 2012' or similar, you hardly get an article that mentions Planetside 2. Or the game is on the list with 20 other titles (including some random lego sh*t, rayman, splinter cell, dishonored etc...). Am I the only one disappointed with this? |

I think the awards are great press, and this is just from a small scale demo. Just wait until the press see what we the players do in beta. They will be blown away by the scale of the game, just as we were with the original. I think Planetside 2 did pretty good for a game still in alpha.

I, for one, love the game for being a PC exclusive, but you've got to realise how significantly that effects the way it is perceived by the public. |

To a lot of people they see the potential, but it's really hard to award that game Game of the Show because they only got a glimpse of what it really is.
There were also some other very fantastic looking games at the show. Assassin's Creed 3, Watch Dogs, The Last of Us, Dishonored... they all looked fantastic. It's a good time to be a gamer. |

Sony should have shown it during their press conference. PS3 be damned it would have generated more of a reaction than any of what they actually showed. Like whoopee, more waggle gimmicks and a Smash Bros ripoff, that's what gamers want to see alright.

Sony's press conference is all about the Playstation brand. It's also very much about showing sponsors and the people with the money how they plan to be succesful in the coming year. These people aren't stupid. If the conference was literally in front of nothing but gamers they would show nothing but games.
That's why you see lots of time on things like Xbox smart glass and wonderbook (god save us) because they are trying to show how they can expand their market and make more money. They are already making money in the gaming market and now they are trying to gobble up all outlets of entertainment to make the profits even greater. The people they are trying to impress in these conferences are the people interested in how the companies are going to make money in the coming year. They need to convince them that they have products people are going to buy, not just games for gamers. It's sad but true. Planetside 2 got tons of awards and recognition especially for a PC title. Console gaming dominates the market. I honestly cannot believe all the hype I have seen around it since E3 and from sources that are not PS1 vets. Just look how the PSU community has grown! Before it was nothing but PS1 players now it's a community full of Vets and others interested in this new game! Have faith my friend!

I'm encouraged overall .
When the e3 live was being shown , I glanced at the number of people viewing the planetside2 discussion here on planetside universe. It went from around 80+ to 800+ in a matter of minutes. I looked at a couple of ps2 demos done pre-E3 by total biscuit on youtube for ps2, and it had 386000 views . If you build it, they will come. Small steps. |

Honestly, I'm 100% over the moon with the reaction we got at E3.
As a free to play game, it's tough to even get some journalists to come to see you, once they did they "got it" and were blown away. We knew we were going to impress and have a great show, but no one was expecting us to be nominated for or win as many awards as we did and we're insanely grateful for the recognition. |
