Warpgates in PS2.

I was thinking about this today, just random thoughts.

What if there were say 10 Warpgates on a continent in PS2. These gates are contestable, having their own capture mechanic allowing empires to control them. The gates are in pairs, meaning one gate leads to another one on the same continent.

Controlling one end of a gate, means you can send infantry through it. Controlling both ends of the gate means you can send armour through as well.

Now, lets say once every 3 or 4 hours all of these gates swap their links, meaning gate A that was linked to gate B, is now linked to gate C, and gate B and now linked to D. When this happens, all the gates also go neutral.

There would be a big timer for this, everyone would know it was happening.

The idea behind this, is to break up any stalemates we have going. Alot of people have been worrying about the perpetual three-way idea. This would change the battlefield, giving the empire that organises the fastest an advantage.

This is very much a napkin idea. Feel free to rage at me. :P

Personally, i loved the stalemates of PS1, holding down a base forever is what made the game exciting for me. So i wouldn't be in favor

It sounds very cool imo. Seeing that a warp gate in the middle of your two enemies will lead to the core of your territory and scrambling to defend it would make for some extremely interesting scenarios.

Cut down the number of warpgates (say, 3-6 per continent?), remove the infantry vs. vehicles limitation, and allow adjacency bonuses to flow through the warpgates (or giving each warpgate a facility to designate control of the warpgate), and you've got the thing I've been supporting as a way to break up stalemates.

So.. yes, but not quite so excessive. You only need 1-2 gates between each pair of footholds to throw some strategic spoilers into the mix and make the continents not feel so much like isolated battles.
