Beta account wipe?

Okay obviously no one is actually going to know the answer to this since beta hasn't even started yet but thought i would post this up all the same.

I'm curious if SoE are planning to wipe beta accounts once the game goes live?

Each genre of game generally has it's own set rules of how you deal with beta accounts as the game progresses from beta -> full release. Where as PlanetSide2 has the genre pretty much to it's self apart from obviously PlanetSide1 and things have changed massively since the beta of PS1.

Considering so much more in Planetside2 is now focused on the ability to unlock cert abilitys, specially for added teamplay functionality such as squad spawning I'm wondering if it would actually hinder gameplay at release if they wiped accounts since obviously there would be very little diversity on the battlefield what with every one having the default cert setup.

Personally I'm really hoping they just go for a phased release down the same path that the majority of MOBAs have taken, such as League of Legends in which the release was a very gradual roll out from beta in which players kept their account and because of that already built up a strong active gaming community prior to the actual release.

Definitely if there is a bug in the beta then no one wants messed up stats when the game goes live not to mention weapons probably won't be very balanced.

Re: Beta account wipe?

There has been discussion regarding this topic earlier, and the general consensus is:

- A wipe after closed beta is almost certain to happen.
- A wipe after open beta is likely to happen, but it's also possible that no wipe will occur if things go smoothly.

There has been no official word from devs as far as I know, so this is all just speculation based on how it has worked in some other games.

Depends on how the Beta progresses. If they decide to do a smooth "release" straight from Beta you will see character wipes in the beginning of the Beta, but when the item shop goes online (or some other date) you most likely won't see a wipe.

The same happend with Battlefield: Play4Free. Item shop went online when it was still in Beta, no wipes after that and then "release".

Would Station Cash purchases be allowed in a theoretical open beta? Were they allowed in LoL?
