Hey guys,
i was just curious, how come so many outfits have sticked together for so long? i see alot of outfits attending to the planetside day which were started in 2003. aren't the teenagers from then grown ups now? or did they give the family business over to there children ; P also it is not really common for people who met each other over the internet to keep in contact for so long |

A lot of us just formed some tight knit groups playing PS over the years. A lot of us decided to take it out into different games, different areas of life. Basically, the outfits grew with the members and got to where they are today. I know my outfit has gone into several games since PS and even stepped out into the paintball world and now has a scenario paintball team.
Edit: Geist flew in behind me. The outfit I speak of is BWC Last edited by Jomo; 2012-06-29 at 02:25 PM. |

TBH, I think the longer you keep in contact, the harder it is to leave, and it helps a lot if you try to contact each other in RL. BWC has a Paintball Division that anyone is welcome to join, and twice a year they go to a paintball scenario on the east coast(West Point Combat Classic). Everyone is welcome to come and participate, if you have the means to get there, and we get to actually meet the people we talk to on TS. If anyone is interested, BWC is recruiting: http://www.the-bwc.com/

Second, outfits are practically necessary. This is something I've noticed getting back into the game for the free play period and playing without an outfit for the first time in years. Outfits offer the coordination, camaraderie, and resources that make Planetside fun. Even if someone loved planetside, I don't think they could really take playing alone for very long. It really puts you at a disadvantage, and keeps you from experiencing the best parts of the game. Hopefully, PS2 improves upon this. Finally, as PS1's population shrank, a lot of outfits have died out. Those that remain can absorb other people, and the strongest guilds are often very popular because they are large, effective, social, or famous. That popularity in turn can maintain their fame, size, power, etc. |

The other thing is that it's wrong to think computer gamers are only for teenagers. (the non-gaming media do this a lot)
My outfit has a wide range of ages....... and it's not as if people just became older in the outfit, it always has had a range of ages tbh. |

Planetsides "core" players are of an average age group that I would bet is higher than any other FPS. By this I mean the base is more likely to be mature responsible players that are invested in the game and the people they play it with. Rather than a younger "twitch" gamer who is just looking for the next newb he can smash in whatever game is "best" at the time. Add to this it is a persistent world and arguably less about competition and more about teamwork.

AlterElectus hails from Tribes back in the 90's and although people come and go it still has a small core group of originals.
Our youngest member back then was 16 who slipped past our old 18+ rule. He still plays with us today. We have members offspring gaming with us now and then there is Myr who is known as Methuselah for very good reason. Planetside was just one of many games along the way but, like Tribes, brings back many memories of good times. Even after 9yrs we are noticing old faces logging back in to see what we are up to for Planetside 2 and I think that is a great sign for the game. You wont see us spamming "sanc" for new members but hopefully we pick up a few along the way or form new alliances for years to come. |

I started playing with an online community (originally SWG) when i was 13...Im 23 and i still play with these guys and girls in games where they have a presence...Some of the members have kids that i've seen baby-scans of, and heard how their first day in primary school went etc. Basically - If you find a community that 'clicks' with you, you tend to stick with it. EDIT: I used to get help with my homework during schoolnights so i could help them dungeon run the DWB and 'Vettes, when i was the only maxxed out Combat Medic/Rifleman in the guild at one point Last edited by Atlas; 2012-06-29 at 03:20 PM. |
