Heavy Assault

I have looked around on the internet and can not seem to find an answer to my question. Maybe I can get some help here! Are the heavy assault classes restricted to LMG variant weapons only? Or would it be possible to use a standard assault rifle variant of a weapon? Thank you in advance!

Its been said that HA cant use assault rifles(that only LA can), as for carbines and whatnot? possibly, but there's been no solid information.

I doubt they would be limited to LMG variants only, however I do not know if any devs have anything about one way or another.

Hopefully HA will be able to use SMG, Shotgun, AR or LMG however they want to pick while the lighter classes are only limited in that they can not use LMGs. Sniper rifles seem to be Infiltrator only thing which is fine by me.

Edit:

Wait, wut? Why could LA be the only class with access to AR's? That honestly makes no sense.
Edit2: What would make the most sense would be..

Infiltrator: Pistol, SMG, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle.
LA: Pistol, SMG, Shotgun, Carbine
Medic: Psitol, SMG, Shotgun, Carbine, AR?
Engineer: Pistol, SMG, Shotgun, Carbine, AR?, Deployables
Heavy: Pistol, SMG, Shotgun, Carbine, AR, LMG, AV/AA
MAX: MAX AA/AV/AI

Re: Heavy Assault

Not sure about using a standard assault rifle, but to me it's kinda pointless. LMG is only there to accompany the anti-vehicular launcher. The last tier of weapon, heavy assault weapons (Lasher/MCG/Jackhammer) are still in development and that is what the heavy assault class is really about in my opinion. I think light assault uses standard assault rifles, but then again SMG is also a possibility.

I would think in PS2 the common pool weapons will be like the common weapons in BF that any class can use.

It makes perfect sense for them to be the only one that can use assault rifles, since they're the assault class and in comparison to the weapons the HA gets and assault rifle is light.

like you said, the Engi and Medic would use the SMGs or carbines.

Anyway this is based off very old info, the original PC gamer articles i think, so things could have changed.

The E3 demo had Medic as the only class using Assault Rifles. Engineer and LA were restricted to Carbines, HA used LMGs.

Whatever works i guess.

But yea i think the thing is each class will have its own weapon sets to make it easier to balance etc. since the LA has high mobility it i guess does make sense for them to have shorter ranged carbine weapons since they can gap close fast. HA with the nano mesh shield and higher armour would be balanced differently.

It's not a jackhammer... and they wouldn't be entirely invisible.

Nothing is set in stone, people. Hell, I had to edit the wiki for HA the other day to add AV weapons and the shield; there was no mention of them.

It seems unlikely HA will not be able to use SMGs or AR if they so chose.

Yeah but there was still no mention of them or AV on the general Class page under the HA section.

And NOW Hamma puts together a wiki editing contest.

Assault rifles are exclusive right now to medics only. The Devs are considering allowing Engineer to have access to AR. Lights do not have access to AR.

Heavy Assault has LMG in one slot and the 2nd slot can be switched between anti-infantry or anti-vehicular.

I've got mixed feelings about Engineers and ARs. I feel that Engineers should have SMGs and shotguns due to the many other tools they have as well as their powerful deployable turret.

That said, it seems kind of silly for only 1 class to be able to use ARs.

I'm fine with keeping the carbine... it's a much nicer weapon for running and gunning then a stuffy old AR...
