I, as an officer, make a custom badge. I than, as an officer, assign that badge to someone in my outfit. Based on the type of badge it could have various uses.

One Badge might signify that you partook in the most awesome bridge battle the Outfit has ever participated in. That one I name None shall pass. It simply is attached to your Badge section within your profile.

Or another Badge might signify that you have the proper Certifications and Training to operate as an advance scout for the Outfit. This Badge I name Pathfinder Badge and I assign it as a "Role Badge". The player would be able to attach certain "Role Badges" to his loadouts, so when he is geared as a Pathfinder he would attach the Pathfinder Badge, but when he is geared as a Sniper he might attach another badge.

The currently equipped "Role Badge" could be toggled visible in the platoon screen and on the map so that other platoon members know who is capable of what and where they are.

Additionally, players playing with other players that are not Outfit affiliated with each other would see a generic set of Badges that signify their specializations.

I don't understand what badges are.

Do you mean outfit rank titles?

Badges are a marker, like a name tag, only assigned by leadership.

I think he's basically saying that outfits should be able to assign members "badges" or markers identifying their role. The purpose would be to allow any leadership online to identify what the member is best at and order the members to do a specific task.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Badges in the original PlanetSide were achievements that were obtained for specific in-game actions and could be worn on the soldier of your uniform. For PlanetSide 2, I would like to add in custom, outfit generated "Badges" and make them visible in the UI. My intention is not for it to signify Rank, though I would like players to be able to make Badges for whatever they want (you could make one for ex-COs so that even though they no longer bare that rank, people can still know they did at one time). I would rather it be used to recognize accomplishments, training received, and certifications unlocked. They would be player generated graphical emblems.

You are correct, they could also be assigned in recognition of a player having been with the outfit for X years, partaking in a particularity difficult battle, or killing 40 people with an orbital strike.

Realized I put this in the wrong spot. Please Delete
