First: I'm not trying to reignite the 3rd person camera debate.
I am curious if not being able to go into third person view to check yourself out with custom skins will detract people from buying skins. If this is a major mechanic in keeping our game profitable and alive, it may be a worthy concession. After the return to PS1 this month, I do remember silly corner camping with the 3rd person camera. But I did catch myself in 3rd person to check out the higher level skins I'd obtained, and those are relatively ancient and mundane. I'd be hesitant to buy custom skins if I could only ever see them on the loading screen. If I'm going to pay for pixelated pimpage, I want to watch my pixelated pimpwalk. |

I'd like to see what my character's customizations look like while moving. Maybe it could be allowed in the VR training room if it's implemented. Sort of a cosmetics version of the "try before you buy it" idea.

There's no possible way to add it really without breaking the gameplay. They could probably make 3rd person work in the uncapturables. Would that be sufficient?

Camo will have tactical value whether you can see it on yourself or not. Third person view is essentially a wall hack and not worth the cost just so people can see their skin. Sacrificing gameplay isn't worth it for so little gain.
Maybe certain specific actions like taunts could pop you into third person instead? |

Yeah seeing your customized character on a menu versuses in-game is a big difference.
Honestly until two months ago I never used 3rd person in planetside other than to be vain and look at my cool armor. Now that I've seen these various planetside streams and see how people abuse 3rd person, well of course I've been doing it myself the past couple of months. Yeah it's lame. I really wish SOE would put some time into figuring out a way to implement 3rd person infantry view where you simply can't do anything but look. I think they are so anti-3rd person that this will never happen though. |

TF2 has hats and other visual items. The only way you can see them for yourself in game is if you taunt. Really, it's a non issue. We all know how popular hats are in TF2, despite the fact that there is no third person view. |

That would be great if they could add at least an indicator of camo before spawning, only linked to the type of landscape of the place where we're going to spawn with our skin.
Im not talking about a crazy stuff telling you precise and variable camo indications, but just a static number you'll get if you stay in the area. Last edited by KaB; 2012-07-08 at 03:35 AM. |

True, but it would be nice. It wouldn't be much extra work anyway since forgelight was made for 3rd person games too, all it would require is a couple of command lines.
I of course don't want it togglable during actual gameplay as it's clearly abusable, but in a place where there is no fighting i don't see why not. Last edited by Dagron; 2012-07-08 at 03:43 AM. |

You can admire yourself all you want by yourself in a mirror. It'll more than likely be visible at character selection and purchase of the item once they've got the marketplace somewhat closer to finalization.
