I'm with the Vanu
|
Information about Planetside known only to the Vanu before is now fast becoming known to all with the influx of data from the beta and the new screen shots as well as info from the devs themselves in such things as the beta journal.
Revilations such as the MAX and inf suit being the most popular, the value of the AMS (well big suprise there  ) and other such things come in almost daily, the point of my rant? Well, has any of this new knowledge changed your out look on the game? Is it as cool as it seemed? Cooler, What doubts and fears do you have, and what do you look forward to seeing most, aside from the Girls of the Vanu that is. |

I look forward to the kamakazi dropship of death.
I'm also starting to think that the darklight vision implant may be something you won't want to leave home without.

Yeah - I am worried it is going to be filled with MAX's and Stealthers and little else (aside from pilots).
Why are we not seeing more vehicle combat and usage? Is something in Beta that prevents it? Too many MAX's in the ss's for my liking. Just don't want to see an EQ type of situation where all that was really needed was a Warrior, Cleric and Enchanter to succeed. It's way too early to judge - this is just my 1st impression from ss and movies. |

The ability to zoom any time I want to is an absolute must for me. Soooo necessary. Tribes 1 hooked me on this. So I'm definitely getting that.
Also . . . renewed hope for Stealth armors! My favorite single player games ever are Thief 1 and 2, and I've sunk hundreds of hours into the game design tools that shipped with it, so obviously I have a deep appreciation for that kind of stealth-based game. If stealth works -- and if it works PAST closed beta, when hardcore hackers start coming out with hacks (model replacement, packet, driver hacks) -- then I will undoubtedly play a Stealth -- maybe time-share that with my Vanu Max. I really want to see how stealth armors in various empires stack up against each other, as well, for damage-dealing and other areas, or if there are any differences. Can't wait for the game, hurry up open beta.

The coolest thing about PS stealth vs. Theif (and any game that had to do with stealth), is your not just trying to outsmart someone's coding project (AI), instead you're fooling a real person. That's the beauty of MMO games.

I have to agree with ranked here. The games going to be horrible if everyones a max or stealth. I hope that the max is really really slow. Other wise there's no reason to be nornal infantry. Espicially with the sprinting ability. Maybe the bolt driver should be able to hs a max. That'd even things out.

The bolt driver will be as nerfed as possible simply because of the ability for snipers to feed from chaos. As a sniper, you can sit on a hill away from a battle and feed out of the battle quite easily.. same goes for almost any fps. The MAX suits will be very powerful... and if you get into close combat with one and you aren't using armor-piercing ammo immediately then you will probably die. That's simply what it comes down to... you are required to hope the MAX sucks at aiming, or get your group members to back you up right away. Or call in airstrikes, or set mines, or whatever... |

The thing with going either MAX or inf suit is that those people are deciding to specialize in such a way that they REQUIRE support personnel.
Wax their support, and they're screwed. Blow the gens, and a team of MAX defenders has already lost (spawn tubes, inv and med terms all down). And a stand-up firefight is no place to be in an infiltration suit. It's just a matter of learning to play to their weaknesses. For example, that group of locked-down MAX suits Hamma organized would have serious trouble against anti-vehicular MAXes... or someone at the bottom of the stairs with a bunch of grenades (thumper, punisher, or hand). And that grenedier could have some AV support right next to him, so the moment the MAXes stick their heads out, they get NAILED with some heavy ordinance. Just plowing a larger group of MAXes into them would probably work too... though you'd want them pretty seriously outnumbered going head to head with locked down TR MAXes. A VS max (or two) could jump the line and work on their support personnel. Lots of possibilites. An engineer could walk up and plop down a boomer or four at the landing of those stairs... force them to back off, or be blown to kibble. In any opponent's position (combat or otherwise), there are advantages and disadvantages... just a matter of figuring them out and adjusting accordingly. |

Everyone won't be a MAX or a stealther. Jeez, what a ridiculous rumour. With how insanely limited MAX suits are -- able to do pretty much northing but move, run, turn, and shoot -- most people will not use a MAX. And that's not considering that MAX armor is a huge target, almost completely unable to hide from enemy fire whatsoever.
And few people will be stealthers too, given how limited that role is in terms of actual action. Not only do you pack a very small weapon, but your ammo capacity is extremely limited, and I betcha getting a knife kill on a guy with a mini-chaingun isn't nearly as simple as you'd think. Besides, if there's an over-abundance of stealthers, the non-stealthers will just get audio amp. and darklight vision implants, and the infiltrators won't stand a chance. Remember, Infiltrators may be invisible, but that great strength comes at a huge price. If you for whatever reason have your invisibility overcome, you're dead at worst, uncovered, wounded and hunted at best. |

I wouldn't worry about stealths, snipers with darklight vision would make awesome anti-stealthers. Just have them patrol the walls of a base. And even then there's motion detectors, cause there 's only so many ways into a base while stealthed, all of which are on/under the ground. It may take a little while, but commanders will learn to catch stealths.
