In PS1, nearly half the vehicles required a Tech plan (with the exception of the Gal, GG and Loady which had to pe aquired from Dropship/sanc). In PS2 there is only one vehicle that requires a Tech plant and that is the Galaxy?
I mean what is there to seperate a lightning from a Vanguard? Who would pull a lightning if they didn't want a Vanguard? To me with the whole new vehicle mechanics a lightning is a baby vanguard? |

They haven't talked much about this aspect of the game yet but Higby has stated numerous times how taking territory can be a viable strategy for starving your opponent of resources and/or certain vehicles.
He has only mentioned the Galaxy so far as being from a tech plant but I would not be surprised in the least if there's more vehicles on that special list that need certain bases to spawn. Otherwise, they'll have to solve the issue you mentioned (why take a lightning when you can take a vanguard?) solely through resources and cool downs. Which is entirely possible as well. We'll have to see how it plays out come beta. Last edited by Comet; 2012-07-20 at 11:31 PM. |

I do hope they've considered the impact of that on the general dynamics of the fights, since the Galaxy is also the mobile spawn point; the AMS-analogue. Now, obviously it's not a direct replacement, as has been discussed to death, but if it's sometimes going to be difficult to obtain, and the deployment of forward spawn points remains a key strategic tool, that could potentially have distinct impact on the ability of an empire with no Gals to prosecute the war.

Vanguard looks like a heavy Lightning which confuses me a lot.
in PS2 maybe only 10 times strong. So a techplant may not be needed for Vanguard.
instead of the Galaxy for spawning. Probably because SOI is not yet implemented.

The macro-level metagame is going to be all about controlling and depriving others of resources (so it seems at the moment anyway). So yes, resources.
That and I suspect the cooldown timer on spawning a Lightning is going to be quicker than a Vanguard. Just assuming though. |
