Bailing vs. Exiting

A problem that seems to happen a lot in beta right now I keep hearing through the grapevine, as well as various videos I've seen of the Higby streams is exiting out of moving vehicles like normal.

Now, I am only basing this off things I have heard or seen from beta and have not experienced this myself. However, it seems that even pilots of vehicles can exit a vehicle instantly no matter the speed the vehicle is moving. This presents a problem of accidental bailing and thus your vehicle and its passengers left to fend for themselves. And unless you're spec'd for fast seat swapping...You're SoL.

I've heard the key to enter/exit is E. When I heard this problem, I instantly thought about PS1, and having their bailing mechanic (Default Alt-G). Say in my Reaver, I could not exit it while it was in the air, but had to bail. Now in PS2, Bailing is being used through a different mechanic altogether with the Ejector Seat certification (I think...If the E3 demo was to show anything). If this is the case, bailing and exiting should be their own separate entities altogether in the world. If I am driving a Magrider, I should not be able to open the door and step out at 80km/h. However, if certed to allow ejection, I could press another button or key-combo to "Eject".

Having this restriction on exiting moving vehicles or airborne ones once they're moving or in the air would solve a variety of problems:
  1. Accidentally abandoning a Galaxy or other aircraft thus leaving your passengers to die alone in fiery death
  2. Bailing out of a vehicle about to die to a Vanguard so not to give him a kill (And thus you time to run (Of course...If your vehicle is stopped completely you can still exit))
  3. It will give people almost a reason to cert into Ejector Seats so that if they so desire to exit moving vehicles they can safely

Perhaps something to talk about? If you hit E while moving, you should get:
"Cannot Exit.
Please come to a complete stop before exiting the vehicle
"

Hmm Every Game has enter and Exit Vehicle, nothing wrong with that , right ?(diening in the Process is the Players own Fault)
The Rest is Speculation about how it will be in the Upcoming Beta.

Well of course. But you have to remember the scale and the fact vehicles cost something. I'm all for exiting moving vehicles with the cert requirement and a seperate key-combo...But I don't want to be flying a Galaxy (If my outfit ever lets me) and accidentally hitting E and thus killing 15 people and losing a TON of resources. I'd rather a simple message that I can't

Just to note that all of this information was available outside of beta. I think it was purfectstorm at the E3 tream who commented that lots of pilots kill themselves immediately on take-off because they press E to ascend and then inadvertedly eject.

The only options for flyers are:
cert ejection seat
fly as light assault
fly then land at your objective

if you're not light assault or have certed ejection seat and you press E you fall to certain doom

I am honestly just not that worried about this at all... Only thing I might care about is seat switching.

the splash damage from the vehicle exploding should kill you within a certain range. bf3 has it so i dont see why planetside cant have it, would fix the quick bail outs.

also i dont see a problem with bailing out if in a tank. 1 shell from the tank that was attacking you will kill you anyway.

wouldnt it just be solved by moving your key config to a new button?

Due to the nature of Certs everyone will eventually have the ejection seat. Now if it's a vehicle upgrade you have to pay resources for that's fine with me. But otherwise i'm not sure about people being able to freely bail out of vehicles if only because of the "instantly jumping out of my damaged vehicle to start firing AV at you" problem

Everyone will have ejector seat but if you have it equipped you might be missing out on flares, radar, etc.

all trade-offs.

Getting in and out of the vehicles fast is fine with me honestly it's worked before in other games.

Then it can be more difficult to enter a vehicle. If enter and exit were optionally able to be separate keybinds, that would be nice.

I just want to see somebody jumping out of a moving vehicle only to stumble and fall under the wheels of same vehicle.

*ArcLegger gets run over jumping out of Jeep*

Awww, man, he just can't catch a break!

I don't think this is a real problem, especially if you can rebind your keys (and that looks like a "Yes" based on dev statements). If people are killing themselves by pressing the wrong button, they'll learn to not do that... at least eventually. Or perhaps flying just isn't for them.

EDIT: The only problem I really see is with Lag, where people press the button more than once and then hop out the vehicle they entered as a result... but that still shouldn't kill them.

I believe that a heavy assault can survive a fall from any height by using his shields. Can someone confirm this?

Really? So Engi's are going to be the only common pilot class that will need to make use of the bailing module?

I would hope that it would only protect them up to a certain height and speed. It could still be pretty generous.
