A Poem.

This poem was written sometime in the early 1900's by a man who's name I can't remember off the top of my head (2 for 2 on forgetfulness so far today). Oddly enough I first heard it as part of the Iron Maiden song "Revelations", and for some reason it has always stuck with me.

I think the sentiment expressed holds as true today as it did when it was written. I thought you all might like to read it and ponder it's meaning.

O God of earth and altar, bow down and hear our cry,
Our earthly rulers falter, our people drift and die;
The walls of gold entomb us, the swords of scorn divide;
Take not Thy thunder from us, but take away our pride.

From all that terror teaches, from lies of tongue and pen,
From all the easy speeches that comfort cruel men;
From sale and profanation of honor and the sword;
From sleep and from damnation, deliver us, good Lord!

Tie in a living tether, the prince and priest and thrall;
Bind all our lives together, smite us and save us all;
In ire and exultation aflame with faith and free,
Lift up a living nation, a single sword to Thee.

IRON MAIDEN:

For some of you younger people if you dont know Iron Maiden, go D/L some or buy some. Its the classic of the classic Heavy Metal....... All their stuff was like that poem. They had deep meaning in between the lines.

The members of Iron Maiden were very versed in lititure. They had songs about everything from Greek Mythology to the book Dune.

LOL I thought of them as a bunch of english professors that said, FUCK IT! Lets START A METAL BAND!!!!!!!!!!

As for the book DUNE......Rules too..... And after you have actually read the book, watch the movie....Its a great movie that somehow fits the storyline PERFECT in a 2 hour movie..... But if you have not read the book then you will not understand the movie very well. But if you are going to read the book, watch the movie first...Make sense? Watch movie read book watch movie again. It will all make sence.
