Hey guys, my PS name is Damianamaru, and today while logging back into Planetside 1, I noticed something really cool - I noticed my original subscription date was in 2003. For the first time I can remember, this is officially the oldest game I still have legit interest in playing.

I just wanted to commemorate that in the Planetside 2 forums because I feel like we are paying so much attention to what they could be doing in Planetside 2 and not remembering all the amazing things they did with Planetside 1. I can also, honestly say, that I would love it to be a free to play model as well. However, I really would be willing to purchase in-game content.

A similar model to that which more modern games such as SWTOR employ. That fact, alone, I find to be quite an achievement for the Planetside 1 game and community. I would love to hear the opinions of you guys and what you think. Let's reminisce on some old Planetside memories by keeping this in the Planetside 2 forums...it's good we let the guys who never played it, know why it was a such a MONUMENTAL game and it truly is creating another GENRE OF SHOOTING GAME unlike anything else out there....fanboy? Call me maybe - no pun intended -but this game is the shiznits.

Not really sure what your opinion is... To make ps1 f2p as well? Or have PS2 f2p? Because it is. Sorry..? Kinda got lost in your excitement, Lol. Regardless, from a fellow Emerald vet, welcome back!

PS1 isn't FTP anymore. It'd be cool if it was. PS2, eh, I think FTP would be good to maintain a solid community but I wouldn't mind paying. I'd rather BUY content for sure.

you can subscribe and gain benifits for doing so.

ps1 will be all but dead when ps2 opens up.. it just cant hang, while it was great its time has passed..

I don't care what they do just so long as there isn't a mandatory subscription.

PS2's fine as F2P with an optional sub with benefits and a cosmetic cash store (with boosts).

Yeah all I am going to say is everyone is making a judgement on a game that is just now entering beta. How about we wait till the game is released with all features implemented and hopefully most of the bugs sorted out before we pass judgement.

What I meant was that any MMO have better game play if it's not F2P because every F2P have some degree of P2W. If there are no cash shops in the game that sell boosters the game designers have to design there games so all the content is fun to play. If they sell boosters that have to design the game so it's tedious to play if you don't buy them. If they don't they will not make any money from the game.

LoL is a crappy game so what is your point? Besides it's a MOBA and not a MMO

The point is that LoL showed that a free to play game can be a successful business model. The second point is that Planetside is a game that requires a large playerbase for the game to work, free to play brings in those extra players where-by even if they don't buy anything they are still providing content to the ones who do just by being there. Higby or Smed said this exact thing in one of their interviews.

doesn´t matter if you like the LOL game itself. it´s just about the business model. it´s one of the few f2p games that work without pay to win!

most other f2p games failed in the pay to win aspect.
no free player likes the game anymore, after he realised that the paying players will always kill him on sight because they have some über weapons that are simply not available for free.

but this will not be the case in planetside 2 because only cosmetics and boosters are sold for money. and while some jerks scream "boosters are power!" keep in mind, that this is not an rpg game where the char-level is translated into power and additional health. a lvl1 can easily kill a lvl max in planetside. in an rpg this is impossible.

I believe the 12 million active players of LoL would disagree with you. It has surpassed WoW now too. That said, I dont play MOBA games and have zero interest for the genre, but would be stupid to not admit it's success.
