The Longest Day

In a tribute to the next roughly 24 hours we are going to be waiting for our "D-Day"... I have a recommendation from a long since passed classic on the same subject. It will get you through quite a few hours of waiting. An all star cast of top-rated actors not to be forgotten...

I present to you:

"The Longest Day"

Buy it/rent it, watch it. Not all old things are obsolete, this one is... obsoLEET!

My favorite movie. My wife bought it for me and I was happy as hell because I had it on VHS still.lol. She bought me the DVD and we watched it together, then she ruined everything by saying "Honey, they should remake this movie using modern actors and do it in color".

I still love her a little bit.

Funny story about The Longest Day.

Eight Years ago I was hugging the ground with bullets whizzing by and hearing ricochet's. I remember thinking to myself hey that sounds just like the ricochet's in The Longest Day. (It was the first time I'd had bullets fired in my direction.)
To this day now when I hear anything about the longest day I immediately think about the bullet ricochet's. (Of all the things I could be thinking about while getting shot at, that was all that I was thinking about which still surprises me.)

My dad is a huge War Movie/John Wayne fan and I was raised watching The Longest Day. (Along with The Dirty Dozen, The Great Escape and any other war film you can think of.)

Richard Todd, Actor.
In the film he played an officer who landed in gliders and captured pegasus bridge.

In real life he was an airborn officer who parachuted in as reinforcement right after those gliders.

Nearest I know of an actor playing a war role that he did in rl, apart from Audie Murphy.

Brigadier General Jimmy Stewart, check him out. Big time actor, big time WW2 Vet.
