Dynamic Resources


So, Planetside 2 is based around taking hexes which increase the income of resources for your entire empire. But the resources seem to just magically go to your empire upon taking a hex. So I was wondering, would a dynamic mining system work, and how would it work? This is strictly for argument, since I doubt this will be implemented into the game any time soon. Or at all... I have yet to come up with any ideas on how the mining would work, but I want to hear what you guys have to say. Again, this thread is just for the sake of argument.

My first thought is things like, saying a base has those solar panels we've seen, whatever the base gives could be affected by weather systems.

What I also think would be interesting is if things like that Impact Site we've seen on the map, might have semi-random events, such as a team finds something there that gives the empire who holds it some sort of resource multiplier for a certain amount of game time.

I'm not sure how to articulate this right now. But I'm hoping someone gets the gist.

Call in a thumper like in Firefall? - Defend that from the other factions?

Are the bases actively mining anyway - that's why the controlling faction gets the resources...?

So desert bases are worth less than forest bases? It rains more in a forest than it does in a desert.

why not, makes the territory more contested. afterall most of the oil in real life is in remote desert/tundra regions too

I don't see any reason as to why certain bases couldn't be worth more on certain continents than others. Provided there's an appropriate balance of types on each continent

I just think about the mining system. Just do it simple, you got some things who represent the miner,etc. Those thing could be sabotage, making ressources in this region collect slower until repaired.

But to make this so its not easily abuse by lone wolf, you make this as an objective that can be create in missions for squads. This give the opportunitie for little Guerilla Warfare specialized outfit, like mine, having there own role.

Not sure if its clear but well thats what i think oculd be done.

Are you talking about a system in which players are the ones doing the mining-work?

I could see a system in which AI mining bots spawn from a bot facility on a mining base. They move to the mine at the edge of the territory and then come back to the refinery in the base.

This "trade route" style would allow for raiding to play a greater part in-game. Give players more incentive to get behind enemy lines.

However, I feel that this may allow for troll-like denial of resources. I feel that the 3 sides would be balanced in the sense that all 3 would figure out the strat/tactics behind raiding, but it would just result in fewer resources for everyone, much like in real wars of attrition.

I think I'd prefer the simple-economy for now. Maybe a limited trade route system, mines, and other things would be possible in an expansion.

Mines would probably have to be CE related. You won't get far by suggesting NPC AI drones.

Are you suggesting that players have to physically mine resources at bases to increase their factions supply?

and who's going to be doing this??

FFS I'm playing planetside to play a game, not do virtual work.

I could see having scheduled/timed convoys from "extraction" bases to "resource processing" bases that could be raided and so would need player defense. The supply trucks themselves would be like Sunderers without passenger seats, and just drive themselves on their routes per schedule. The guns can be manned and of course you can provide your own escort of tanks and aircraft, and doing so would be an automatically generated "mission" you could accept in the game.

as mentioned that would seriously change the primary focus of the game from one of territory capture to a LOT of resource denial.

at any rate, different bases are already being configured to provide different resources and different resource rates AFAIK (pretty sure I remember hearing something about this in one of those countless interviews)... so certain bases already have some preference.

I dunno, It could be playtested to see how it would play out on a live server.

it would be cool if like a meteor could randomly hit the surface anywhere on the map and then you have to deploy a small mining machine next to it to harvest valuable resources. Since it would be in the open with no walls etc to cover it it would be a perfect area for open warfare without base defending and also very easy to destroy the machine if not protected by active soldiers.

I am not sure if this is already in the game but it would be cool if like bases could have each of its capture points provide like a critical resource to the base. IE: Power loss could result in turret use being offline- i know they said something like this but im not sure what they said
