Ok, so I realize that not everyone has embraced 3D gaming, and lots of people simply don't have the machine or the monitor for it to be practical. I also realize that in many cases it can be tricky with a shooter. However, for those of you like me who have fallen for the immersion that 3D gaming provides and have a rig to support it, I bring good news (to those that haven't already heard). On a whim I checked today to see if Nvidia had any plans for Planetside 2, especially as far as 3D support goes, and was pleased to find the following.
http://www.geforce.com/games-applica...-2/description
For example, I have an i5 2500k sandy bridge, dual GTX 560Ti, and an Asus VG278H 27 inch monitor. I run Skyrim on Ultra settings with 25% depth and high convergence, and pull around 55-60fps. I can't wait to see what PS2 will be like, considering Nvidia has already announced its plans to include 3d support on launch. As always, it will take time (and most likely a few driver releases) before it is perfected, but knowing they plan to address it immediately is a great sign. So I ask...who loves 3D gaming and is planning to play PS2 in 3D? <--This guy for sure.

Doesn't the nvidia thing support games that don't natively support 3D gaming anyway? It emulates it somehow as far as I know.
I personally don't like the 3D stuff. I used a HTC phone with a 3D display... it made my eyes hurt and even 15 minutes later my eyes felt weird even though I used the phone for like 1 minute. That can't be good for you |

With support, however, 3d vision can be amazing. Nvidia rates the quality of the 3d in games, with excellent rated games having most everything display properly. For example, in Skyrim objects in the background appear to be miles away, while your character seems to pop out at you and be much closer than your monitor. So the fact that they are planning to provide this level of quality for PS2 is awesome. 3d doesn't bother me at all. I know some people that get motion sickness or headaches, but I can play skyrim for hours and never notice a thing. Guess it just depends on who you are.

my new rig should be able to play ps2 in 3d (i7,16gb with gtx680 4gb) but i don´t have a 120 hz monitor yet, and no 3d glasses.
i always wanted to play in 3d, because back in the days of descent 2 i owned the first shutter glasses and playing with those was great, but only a handful of games supported them and getting them to work was hard.

I really dont see why anyone would ever(well at least for the foreseeable future) want to mess around with 3d in an FPS.
Your first priority should always be getting you getting you fps higher than your monitors frame rate in battle. Which means 60 fps or higher. You second priority should be getting the graphics setting as high as possible. I doubt anyone has system out there right now that will maintain 60+ fps in a 50-200 man battle while rendering awesome graphics. The required physics and the graphics together is just a huge load unless the games best graphic setting is sub par. NOTE: Im not referring to PlanetSide2 beta Im just talking about FPSes in general.

After yers of playing MLG, I found that if you can't make the distincton between those who are just looking to have fun and those who are really as competitive as you are, you end up looking like a d-bag. I understand this game will be life and death for some, but for most, its a video game. Nothing but a bit of free fun and blowing shit up with friends. I also wear glasses, and my Samsung Active 3D specs fit over them very comfortably and literally weigh almost nothing. Overall, I liked my experience with 3D gaming, but I don't really use it for MP, because my depth perception with grenades goes bonkers. Maybe if I give it a bit more time to adjust, I'll be allright :P Last edited by OnexBigxHebrew; 2012-08-18 at 12:28 PM. |
