First I am not sure if there will actually be a new map during the BETA but I am pretty sure there should be at release so I was wondering will there be some servers running each map or will there be some kind of connection between different maps?
I heard that you could eventually at release sail to different maps not too sure though. Anyway answers are much appreciated |

Most defiantly will be connections to different maps (known as continents in-game) on the same server. Would not be Planetside if that didn't happen.... Devs even thinking about trying to make it so there's a naval aspect of traveling between them.
Technically in the background they are most likely running the game on different server shards or blades. So, the game doesn't just run on a single server hardware wise, it's multiple servers working in conjunction with each other. Last edited by Crator; 2012-09-01 at 01:08 PM. |

Yes, the different "maps" as you put it are all going to be connected to one another and you can travel between them. Ever play Eve? Thousands of star systems on the same "server" all connected in real-time and people moving freely between them. Similar to the continents in PlanetSide.
Also, I'm sure the additional continents will be tested during beta (the second will be debuting shortly). Reason is internal testing can only teach so much with a relatively small number of people. They need a full server in order to see what happens, how it plays, and how the population flows back and forth across it. While they can hammer down mechanics and use previous experience as a template for new maps, there's only one way to see what will actually happen : Let 2,000 people loose on it. On that note, for example, the new map is supposed to incorporate trench warfare. Sounds fine on paper, but in practice it may turn into a disaster. Need to know that in advance. Always easier to fix stuff BEFORE it hits mainstream then to patch up after the fact. |
