Alright, so I'm a PS1 vet. I played PS1 for years, and I averaged 2-3 K/D. Of course, sometimes I'd have my crap days, but usually I played reasonably well.
I've also played a number of FPS over the years, and while I've never been awesome at point-blank twitch combat, I'm a reasonable sniper and I have a pretty decent affinity for arcing shots over range. What I'm trying to figure out is, what has happened to me? I play PS2 and, frankly, I'm pretty bad. I think I'm like a .57 K/D right now. I'd like to blame it on my frame rates; my system is pretty poor at the moment and I lag pretty badly frequently. But even when my frames are good, it seems like a complete toss-up when I walk into any 1v1 on whether I'll survive. When I run into an enemy in a small room, either I waste his face or spend half the time shooting the wall instead of him. Anyone else feel this way? Maybe it's the lower TTK, but I've played counterstrike, Unreal, Quake, BF2 and BF2142 to name a few, so it shouldn't be a huge surprise. I've only recently managed to rid myself of my habit of taking body shots in PS2, because in PS1, without headshots, aiming for center of mass is the best way to land hits. Old habits die hard I guess. All I can do at this point is keep playing... I've seen my K/D come up a bit (it used to be even worse) and hope that when I get a new rig in November, better performance will help my game. Last edited by Electrofreak; 2012-09-01 at 08:03 PM. |

I haven't landed a kill yet - I'm not the finest twitch gamer at the best of times, but I'm getting 13-18 FPS with my rig, and reliably killed by every enemy I meet before I've even had chance to land a shot, in most cases.
Its incredibly hard to aim at such a low framerate, and impossible to use vehicles. That's what's just made me blow £450 on a new CPU/GPU and some extra RAM If i'm gonna suck, I'm gonna do it because I lack skills, not frames per second... |

I feel the same way. Ive been playing for 2 weeks and Im used to using a 3.4 scope for Bf3. I tried using the same and im not aiming well at all. My sensitivity is fine but I cant get the fine control down like in other games. Then when I no scope I still have a tough time, and this is coming from someone who has played hundreds (maybe thousands) of hours in CS:S. Its really just the game. Its not fully optimized for gameplay and graphics so Im sure its not you or me but the game (but just right now).

Don't concern yourself with how low your K/D ratio is or how "bad" you're doing. At this point it really doesn't matter considering how the game isn't anywhere near completion yet. Still lots of balance issues and many certs aren't even in the game yet.
Just focus on testing, learning, and enjoying the game for now. You will improve in time. |

I found it very tough at first, and I'm still finding it pretty harsh. Partly I think the huge cone of fire doesn't help noobs with default weapons, partly the fact that it takes a very short time to die means that quite often the player who gets the first round on target will win. As TR, I find the NC Gauss kills me incredibly fast.

In my case, it's because TR's CoF is extremely wide, even when aiming down sights. This makes TR units much more vulnerable to anything more than medium range since their bullets also do so little damage. I played NC for a while as well, but had no problems with hitting and killing at pretty much any range.
I feel the netcode/hit detection/something is also extremely off. You could pump a whole magazine into someone and still not score any hits if they were standing still and you're right on top of them. |

I have the same kinda problem. In other games I usually have about 1-2 KD.
But in PS2 I currently have 0.87 or so - not a MAJOR difference but I feel the same way; In 1v1 battles I either get lucky and headshot them several times so they die, OR: I just fire behind them, hit a few shots but they get me down pretty quick. Mostly using Light Assault so I'm not doing maximum damage. I've got bad fps too. I've also got a very bad mouse ( I know, the cliché complaint ). But all my others are broken from nerd-rage so I'm using some small fucker right now which doesnt provide you with a good grip, my mousepad sucks as well so I'm playing against the wooden desk. I'll get new ones as soon as I can be bothered to though. |

Stop trying to convince me to play the OP faction Hamma.
Seriously though, I broke down and made some changes to my screen resolution which pulled my frames up and suddenly I was doing a lot better. Single-handedly thwarted a Galaxy full of TR that landed on an airpad at Hvar the other night using a flamethrower MAX followed by a Burster MAX. The optimizations the devs are making help too. I'm starting to think that my suckage has just been a combination of poor frames and just being rusty at FPS. I think I try to ADS too much in close-quarters combat, as I've been forcing myself to quit trying to quick-scope headshots at close range and just use hipfire.
