these are the requirements, though i dunno what this stuff means im not a computer wiz,.
* 1.0GHz CPU * GF2 w/64MB Vram * 512MB RAM * A nice soundcard now our new computer will have this... Intel Caleron processor 2GHz, 40Gb hard disk drive, 256Mb RAM, CD-RW drive, 17" CRT monitor, Broadband, Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. ok i just coppied that from a Harvey Norman catalouge, so can someone tell me if that is enough to run PlanetSide? |

If this is a computer company that specializes in making PC's, then I'd double check the graphics card. It's the only info you didn't provide us, but I think that it should run PS ok. Not the best, but adequate.

I know that Zatrias is pro-ATI, and I'll get on that same bandwagon. I would recommend that, if you have the $, get the 9500 pro 128MB video card($178 via pricewatch.com), or get at least the GeForce4 TI 4200 128MB Video card ($135 via pricewatch.com). The choice is up to you.

Not a bad system.
The first thing you need to do is drop another 256 MBs of RAM in there. A Radeon 9500 Pro is a good way to go for a vid card upgrade, and you'll be able to save a few more pennies once the 9800 is released. Have you already ordered this PC? I'm not a big fan of the Celeron's, but I guess there may not be anything you can do about it. You should be ok. |

^ Agreed, Celeron's are very poor for gaming (and for most things ) I don't like them either.
You might want to check that that new Computer actually posseses an AGP slot, I know some people who have been fleeced in the past, as has been said Radeon 9500Pro or 9700Pro as over there in the states there doesnt seem to be a big price difference 256Mb is bare minimum today, especially with Win XP, you will struggle with 256Mb - 512Mb is entry nowadays, however you can always upgrade at a later date |

Yeah, a lot of it will come down to the graphics card/processor... and if they're NOT listing what kind of GPU they have in the computer's description, worry. That's a sign that they're sneaking crap into it. Call/email the company and demand to know what kind of graphics card it has, if the magazine doesn't list it.

Then again, I don't see graphics cards listed on any of their systems, even the highest priced PC. |
