Just something I posted on my clan's forums, but figured I'd spread the knowledge/power for more challenging gameplay >
Just a random thought regarding how manpower should be distributed regarding larger scale air assaults. Maybe Alpha through Charlie should roll and fill the gall with Delta all pulling Scythe? Form a the three Galaxies should form a Staircase Wedge formation for maximum defence turret coverage in this pattern. Top Down View: _G G_G Side View: ___G G ______G Each Galaxy should have an equal distribution of Scythe escort, and these units of four should be divided into combat pairs, with each pair having it's respective members prioritize each other's survival. If both pilots in the first of the two pairs end up getting tailed or locked onto they should call onto the second pair to clear them, such that each pair is apart of a larger pair. While the escorts should of course keep the Galaxies survival as top priority, their presence alone should provide significant distraction to opfor interceptors either by engagement or potential engagement. Between the turret coverage from the Galaxies and sheer amount of protection a dozen localized scythes provides this seems like a tactic easily capable of resisting almost all air attack. The question would be now how to counter ground threats, one possible idea would be for the Delta squad escort wing to be composed of 1/3 Liberators, with oen liberator dedicated to clearing threats for it's repspective Galaxy escortee and after the hotdrop should prioritize keeping the ground clear of armor threats. |

I love the idea of massive airdrops worth of troops.
However, imo narrow planning such as this is difficult to form and plan and even harder to carry out. That and the fact that any of the troops you drop, unless they take the obj in one blow, have virtually no chance due to attrition. |

But the problem is getting 30 people together and pointed in the right direction, not to mention the support aircraft. I realize some platoons will be capable of filling such requirements, but in my experience, it tends to be frought with problems. I think what a lot of people miss here is an opportunity to show how billy bad ass you are by accomplishing obj's with as FEW people as possible. Sadly I feel as though Gal drops, as the game stands now, may be a thing of the past. |

This game does point towards "Join an outfit for more fun team orientated gameplay or else you will get angry at everyone for being stupid and not doing the right stuff and thus rage quit"
Its easy in an outfit to get everyone to one place. Whether its the most high up person saying "Ok, everyone meet at warpgate, we are going to load in 1-2 gals and attack *Insert target here*, and someone grab a sundy so we can spawn on it" Which everyone listens and so we do a cool attack, and we place as many spawn beacons as possible and attack until the enemy zerg decides to defend which either becomes almost impossible, or the zerg leave again. But most of the time we only have 12 people so we go round major bases capping the outposts so the zerg has a better chance of capturing the main objective. And i hope the Galaxy AMS doesn't get removed. Or maybe instead of removing it, make it so only platoon members can spawn on it that way its not as common anymore. And the 500 cert goal is quite high so only dedicated gal pilots will try to get it anyway. Last edited by Toppopia; 2012-10-02 at 09:04 PM. |
