[Windows 8] Press play, but nothing happens

I am running Windows 8 and when I press play on the launcher I get a message saying "Game is starting please wait...." but nothing actually happens. I read in a thread that there was a solution to this, but the person could not find it. Anyone that can point me in the right direction? Google was not that helpful

the beta is broken for me now with windows 8. it freezes on loading textures.

if you are new to beta you need to right click on the the planetside icon and go into properties and check the box saying to run with administrator rights. otherwise i believe it does not launch correctly. but ya i was able to play in beta on win8 for the past 2 months and now cannot get past the launcher. something they did with this latest patch really borked something in win8 beta.

This is a bit late i know, but a solution someone told me that fixed my issue was unplugging any gamepads/joysticks.

for me it freezes after that you press "play" and the second splashscreen shows
