Sound Issue: Possible Crash Source

I've been having sound issues, with most sounds disappearing or becoming extremely muffled. I can't even hear my own gun fire, just the occasional random sound.

Conversely, one thing I've been noticing with my rash of crashes is that the first thing to freeze is sound, just before crashing.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Re: Sound Issue: Possible Crash Source

I came here to look up sound issues, as my brother seems to be having them. I am not. We have exact same sound hardware. Gonna see if we have same driver version. That is the only thing I can think to check.

Hardware and Driver information of mine that works with no sound issues yet:
MB: ASRock Z68 Pro3 Gen3
Audio on MB: Realtek ALC892
Driver Version: 6.0.1.6392
Driver Date: 06/14/2011

EDIT: Just had my brother check, he is on same driver version.

Re: Sound Issue: Possible Crash Source

I've had this problem occur for some days now, I keep coming back each day hoping that the issue has been resolved but just when you think that all is ok it goes again.

Someone has posted a video on one of the Planetside 2 forums that plays the sounds that we experience in-game, and it has gotten worse with the onset of complete silence.

So all I and others I know can do each day this keeps happening is send a support report and wait untill it's sorted, sooner rather than later hopefully.

Just found this

It would appear that the bug is still present, but after the last fix, it's less likely to occur. That said, I'm pretty sure we've got it under control here at the studio. We're pushing it through a few rounds of testing to check its validity as well as to make sure it's crash proof before we patch it on beta. I personally apologize for the bug, and thank you all for being a part of the solution.

Woohoo, just played for over an hour and no more sound issues. But now Engineer can only give ammo to squad mates but not to other friendly units or even himself DOAH!

Re: Sound Issue: Possible Crash Source

I saw someone suggest (in the beta forums Technical section) that setting the sound options to Default ingame solved the problem for him.

So I tried it, and no more sound problems !

However, after an hour od more, my game still randomly locks up and crashes. This has only been happening since my sound issues started.

So the question is, are the sound issues merely a symptom of the crash bug ?
