Besides the huge steam audience and convenience, is there any benefit to running PS2 on steam? Will it keep track of any extras like trophies and such? The file system seems identical when I looked at the steamapps folder and sony's. it seems to just take up more memory as I run PS2 in turbo mode and would rather have the memory freed by unloading steam when playing.

I copied the steam downloaded launcher to a skeleton area where PS2 installed itself and it ran fine in both. Will eventually erase one of these instances. The small FPS boost sounds interesting, I may have to test it.
Thanks guys.

Currently, a few perks are that the client's in-game browser is very efficient. Additionally, you can save your screenshots to a gallery and keep track of friends in/out of game, provided they're also on Steam; a few notable things SOE is missing at the moment.

Eventually just ran the launchpad.exe as administrator directly from the Steamapps directory and that seemed to work...so am basically not using using Steam. I am still getting issues with the launcher just sitting there with "Installing" greyed out about once every 3 tries. Fortunately I played beta so am perhaps not having as many problems getting in as many in EU seem to be as I have a Station ID. I think I might just go for a fresh install in a week or so when I can leave my PC downloading for 3 hours. |
