*Sigh* I tried to like it, but I don't like it. *Shurg*

I tried. I really did, but at the end of the day... as much as I like blowing things up (in video games...), Planetside 2 just isn't "fun" for me.

Here's why,
  • Death to "random" is far to frequent.
  • Runs like crap, making it extremely hard to aim left-right or fly anywhere worth while flying. Yet I get a nice 50 to 80 FPS when nothing is going on...
  • No collision detection, so enemies just run through you and dance in circles - hello WoW "PvP". And other assorted flavors of cheese.
  • Large swaths of people just want to "win", so organized groups always slaughter randoms rather than having the balls to go head to head with other organized groups.
  • All of the organized groups that I played with through beta were pointless zergs, but that's ok because that's all this game is. One giant spastic, tactic-less zerg. No one "owns bases", they simply cap them and move on.
  • Death happens way too quickly.
  • Flying is so slow (like WWI biplane slow...) that it's boring.
  • "Dog fights" are a bloody joke... OMG it's laughable to watch people twirl in circles while stopped in mid air. What's more laughable is when they brag about how awesome they are lol... I'm not looking for a "flight sim", but something far less pathetic would have been nice.
  • There is absolutely nothing to do beyond shooting people and blowing things up. Repair? Why bother? Heal/Rez? No need, they can respawn near by 95% of the time. Hack a terminal? OK, now what do I do for the other 99.9999999% of my play time? Nothing, because the game is as shallow as toddler pool.
  • There is no point to the game. None (and no one who plays it really seems to care *boggle*...). Woo... you get a bonus if you capture a map. Wow! I AM SO IMPRESSED!

OK, I am not really impressed.

I'm bored. I was bored in the Enclave during beta too fyi - bored while bouncing all over the map capturing bases, "working as team", and "winning"... Bored when I played with some nice, organized folks on the EU server... Bored while playing with random folks... Bored, bored, bored, without remedy nor resolve.

Bored.

That said, I do find the art and the world design to be fantastic and the programing, animation, and sound design is wonderful, but none of those things compel me to keep trying to like Planetside 2. Congratulations SOE team on making the game you set out make, it's a huge accomplishment that you should be proud of! Seriously.

Anyhow, I give up.

Nothing will replace that "gaming hole" that was left by Star Wars Galaxies. Apparently I don't actually like anything else... Lucky me.

Thanks for having me in the community. It was an interesting year and half. I am sure I'll hop on and shoot some stuff from time to time, seeing as the game is free to play (and I bought 8K SC worth of stuff, because I rock /supportSOE).

Best wishes,

- Tatwi

Ps. Perhaps this is why I have not played any "shooter games" since the original Counter-Strike back in the early 2000s... I might be "over them" like I am over Diablo's "point, click, click, click, click, win, repeat" game play...

TL;DR: I am aware that no one cares.

To lighten the mood: My favorite moment in PS2 Beta

Increase TTK, increase respawn time, and reduce the amount of respawn locations.

While it wouldn't fix all the issues, I feel it'd go a long way. It's a shame the designers value the opinion of 360 no-scopers so much.

Maybe you're trying too hard to like it, or make it something that it isn't?

I just view and play it like a non-stop, dedicated server FPS game and I'm enjoying myself. I redeploy often on the same map and switch between the Zerg and defending bases being back hacked.

Get rid of any expectations and preconceived notions and enjoy it for what it is, a HUGE, persistent FPS game, which consists of nothing more than killing people and blowing stuff up, lol. FPS games, at their core, are pointless, but fun nonetheless if you view it as nothing more.

I think you're trying to make it something that it isn't?

The performance issues suck, though, and does degrade the fun factor greatly, but I'm lucky to be able to play it well enough that it doesn't bother me.

In any regards, I'm sorry to hear that.

I,for one, really like the game. It's fun, it has tactics.

If you don't like the game, don't play it. You're wastin all of our time coming here and complaining about it. The game that you want has come and passed. I'm all for deep gameplay experience but something about 30 second respawn timers and a halo ttk

Dude that sucks.

Personally, I enjoy the game quite a bit, but I know how you feel. Same as I felt when they released bf3. I had great expectations for the sequel, but they changed it so much.

Peace out, and hopefully you find something you like.

You dont seem to understand "shrug."

Anyway a lot of what you said was actually generic MMO PVP complaints.

But you do get at one real point - the turn over on everything is really really fast. It makes for a lot of action , but if what we do had more consequence and result the game might be better.

BUT I only have the same opinion in the following points:

... One giant spastic, tactic-less zerg. No one "owns bases", they simply cap them and move on.

... Death happens way too quickly.
The main problem is, that PS2 lacks the deepness PS1 had and the features PS1 had. A Hacker could do way more in PS1 than in PS2. A Combat-Engineer could do way more in PS1 than in PS2.
Defendable Bases are needed as Some of the current Bases and Towers need to be redesigned.

SoE has to deliver these lacking features as soon as possible to make PS2 a good game.

@Tatwi

You have to look for a real organized Outfit, not a Zerg one Outfit.
With a dozend to 36 Guys, who really follow orders, follow them quick, pick classes as they are needed or told by the squad leader and stick together like a real fireteam you can take a base on your own against a Zerg.

Gortha

Aye but gortha, he was in an organised tactical outfit, ie The Enclave.

@tatwi, I know what you mean but I disagree somewhat with the statement that the devs have created the game they wanted to, in one respect they failed to achieve on of their design goals - which was to make ps2 more accessible than ps1.
I could recite a list of things that a more complex.

The other point we need to keep in mind is that the game is nowhere near finished. To see the real planetside in my opinion you need 3 extra things:
cr5 command chat
more continents
two-ways (which implies more continents and populations below theoretical max).

I think we'll get there, in time and that means several months but maybe upto a year.

RingRing, i think so too. Let´s give the SoE-Guys a few Months of time and we´ll see a more strategic game. And with more features/ablities the classes get, we get a deeper gameplay experience too. I got still hope.

What i want to have is a real Cloaker with a small weapon slot next to the claok-Sniper we got atm. The real Stealther/Cloaker should be cloaked all the time like in PS1. Then implants like Darklight etc. to counter. Wishes...

Actually I agree with your statement regarding the hacker and engineer.

I think they did oversimplify some things.

There are plenty of deficiencies in the game as it stands, I agree, but I'm more of a "glass half full" person and I'm hoping that significant improvements will be made over the next few months. Don't give up on the game just yet.

You're right. There was a lot more that you could do in PlanetSide 1, then PlanetSide 2. They rushed it, there's no way to get around that.

Spitfires
Mines
Motion Detectors
ANTs and NTUs
Hacking
etc.

These are all non-combat functions which served a purpose to help combat roles function better. People who performed these actions did so because they wanted the empire, their outfit, and their squad to succeed. We need cohesiveness, but we need to support it. Where is the three-year plan? When are we getting information about what is coming, and how you, SOE, plan to actually support players?
