What are the best Light Assault weapons?

I know everyone raves about the shotguns, but I don't find them very impressive. Sure they are great for indoor close range battles, but that's just not where I find myself most of the time. The LA class excels outdoors where his mobility is more relevant. In these areas, the ranged abilities of an SMG are essential.

So what is your favorite weapon for the light assault class, be it shotgun or SMG and why?

Edit: I am primarily looking for info on VS weapons.

I use the NC GDF-7 (is it gdf? Definitely a 7 though) and it's pretty good with a lasersight. Great rof and decently accurate if you are not flying.

GD-7 has the best TTK of NC carbines at point-blank range and reasonable accuracy when in single-fire mode, but after the first shot or two it has significant recoil and accuracy issues.

This makes it a good skirmishing weapon. Not a good pick for any kind of extended medium-range engagement though.

OP - The VS VX6-7 carbine is arguably the best weapon in the game in terms of overall best TTK and accuracy, going off stats alone. It outperforms all other carbines in general, killing in less than half a second at point blank with body shots, and still retains its killing power out at medium ranges due to controllable recoil and good accuracy. It does have a short clip, but as LA you generally will not having trouble finding cover for when you need to reload, and the Beamer is a pretty decent sidearm if you need to finish a kill.

If you like medium long ranges out doors you should consider slugs. But dont bother if you plan to hip shoot.

Good to see you too Electrofreak! And of course I am back, how could I miss planetside 2. As to my faction change. They changed the back story for planetside 2. The NC are no longer freedom fighters, but mercenaries hired by corporate interests. I couldn't support that. The Vanu may be a touch crazy, but they are at least fighting for the noble cause of bettering humanity. That and they have the coolest MBT and ESF.

I echo the VX6-7 for carbines and honestly you can save yourself the trouble of asking around because everyone will say the same.

It's an incredible gun I use it in every situation. Honestly with the VX6-7 there is pretty much no reason to use any other carbine IMO.

There might possibly be one that is better at long range but I do fine with the 6-7
