Engineer shotgun question

I purchased with Station Cash the semi automatic shotgun for the Terran Republic Engineer class. For this weapon, there are three categories to cert in:

-Ammunition (Slugs)
-Optics
-Rail

I purchased the Extended Mags for the shotgun, which is under the 'Rail' category.
My question is: Am I able to equip a second 'Rail' accessory such as the laser sight while my Extended Mags are equipped?
Normally when I'm confronted with such a question I would simply buy it and find out, but it's 100 cert points that could go to something more important.

Thank you very much for any and all answers!

Pretty sure the answer is no, it's one or the other.

You can only equip one item out of ever category. So if you had the option of two ammunition types, you'd only be able to pick one.

Same with all categories on all weapons/vehicles. If things are in the same category, you have to choose. (part of the whole "sidegrade" concept and trading one good thing for another)

Anyone have an opinion on certing slugs for an engineer's shotgun?

I'm typically playing as an engie running the FA1 Barrage. The slugs are really good, just keep in mind that you are trading in one capability for another. It's definitely nice to have the range extended and have the damage focused a bit more.

I didn't like the slugs. It does do massive damage when you do hit (imagine the damage from all your pellets hitting in one shot)... but you have to be massively accurate. Imagine the hardest hitting weapon with the smallest clip and massive recoil.

Can be useful at medium range with a scope though, especially at night with an INRV.

Slugs also don't OHK with a headshot which I thought was strange. I tested it on my teammate and it left him with 75% health and no shields left. Two shots to the chest leaves 25% health. Although I'm beginning to suspect that FF dmg is less than damaging enemy players. It's fun to use with a scope but it seems to miss occasionally even when the target is dead center.

This was all done with the NC Mauler. I also have the Sweeper which just seems to perform better overall even though the damage and accuracy stats are identical.
