The weapons are so bland..

In Planetside they all felt different, had their own functions and you used each weapon for a specific roll. However in Planetside 2 the developers seem to wanna make them all the same so they're balanced. They all fire what seems like the same bullets, they're all right near your head to fire over railings and they all look the same.

I mean I still cannot tell between a shotgun and a rifle from the image alone, the Jack Hammer looked like a rifle to me. When I'm killed by a Jack Hammer it is like I've been shot by a silenced weapon... where is the big beefy noise that everyone was scared of in Planetside?

I dunno what the Vanu Lasher is but I haven't seen it or people don't use it. Where are the big orbs? That was fun and unique in the game, the only thing I can think of atm is it fires bullets like everything else. I've made a Vanu character just to secure the name for 5 mins and looking in the store, it didn't stand out.

The MCG should be this underslung heavy slow thing that once it gets going just kills like masses of people. I loved it in Planetside but in Planetside 2 oh look it's like any other weapon only with the spin time. When I'm being fired upon by one I cannot tell what gun it is, the sounds are so weak and it's just like any other gun. I want it to be that badass looking gun that we saw in all the pictures or that they're still using on the store. Higby said on the Gamespot stream that people who use that gun tend to just wanna run and gun and don't care about taking cover. Then why the hell was it redesigned for taking cover? Why does it have to be the same as all the other weapons? If you don't like not being about to shoot over railings then use another generic boring weapon! I dunno about you guys but I have never taken cover in this game. The only thing I do is run around a corner and wait for the shield to regen and run straight back into the action.

I just cannot find any joy in using weapons in this game, even MAX units feel useless. Their AV and AA is weak as crap and normal small arms fire can mess you up, it should be AV weapons like Planetside. I also don't get why they don't have an autorun anymore like Planetside, I dunno if it is in the certs but it needs to be as standard. That suit cost me a lot of resources and now I have to change out because running a long way sucks.

What is it with turrets in this game anyways? Say in a prowler and have an AA weapon, it isn't flak and trying to hit a moving target is nearly impossible unless it's close. I'm aiming at an aircraft and like 1 hit out of every 20 is on target. I was using an AI weapon on the back of it earlier because I go AP and you can quick switch seats. It is so hard to hit troops that are running and are like medium distance from the tank. You're clearly hitting right on them and yet again only like one in every 20 hits. In real life you're going to be mowing shit down int he general area you point it at, you don't even have to be that accurate.

What is up with Lock on AV for ground vehicles? I get why it is there for aircraft but against ground vehicles it does so much damage. Usually the rule of thumb is lock on for air and point and shoot for ground. I find it so over powered when you're storming a base, they have lock on AV everywhere and turrets and their own tanks. Like you last 10 seconds before you have to go and repair, only you cannot turn around because then it's like a one hit kill on your tank. So you end up reversing very slowly and get killed anyways or run over your own Engineer that stood directly behind.

Why is there no equipable knife slot? Quick Knives is so bad, it's like it doesn't function probably, you end up missing half the time and it does so little damage. I'm only with quick knives not being in the game and having a proper knife slot so I can run around with the knife CS style. At least have both like BF3 if you don't wanna remove one.

I feel like there is no personality in the weapons, they're all just so generic and boring to use. So because they're all the same only one does more damage than the others and has no down side to using it. I end up using the same weapon for each class and never changing.

The other horrible thing is they all sound the same, they look the same when being shot at so you cannot tell what weapon it is. I dunno what is up with the Liberator but I was being shot at by that in my tank and it sounded like small arms fire, I didn't even realize it was a Lib. Then like 3 hits later I was dead and what seemed out of the blue. Like give the lib more of an explosive effect when it impacts your vehicle, don't make it seem like an infiltrator is firing on me lol.

Even good shooter you can tell what weapon is what and you tend to cycle between them all, in Planetside 2 that isn't the case.

The biggest things that bothers me are the gun models and amount of ammo carried.

The gun models are too small IMO. I can't tell what people are carrying, not that it really matters here (so you have a point), but they should be more distinctive and larger. The sounds, while nice, are somewhat similar per empire, too. Should be more distinctive.

Secondly, people love to spam (I do, lol). But the constraining ammo doesn't allow that without finding an engineer or running back to find a terminal. It's an unfun mechanism of this game that ps1 didn't have. I rarely ran out of ammo in ps1 while I always run out of ammo here. That's just not fun for me. The maxes are especially bad. Shoot twice then reload is not fun, at all. They should have larger clip sizes and maybe lower damage. People like to feel engaged, and these mechanisms detract from that IMO.

It's the piece meal F2P purchase system that is the root cause of these issues imo. I think they can fix it but will take some work.

You're right, they are pretty generic and don't have anything unique about them. Problem stems from the fact is that they re-use the same stock weapon parts for all of their weapons (I heard there's like 8 or 9... meaning shoulder stock, barrel, etc) and because they re-use the same sound effects. Is there any CARV LMG that doesn't sound like the first one? Why do all sniper rifles, be they semi or auto, sound exactly the same within the same empire?

My own problem with the weapons
1) All shotguns look exactly like rifles. Where are the pump-actions?
2) All have the exact same reload animation (box magz, drums). If I'm going to spend money on a new weapon, at least have it behave/animate differently. FPS are all about visual variety. They compare their model to the LoL model, but at least in LoL your new character has a whole new animation set and VO/ sound effects
3) Nothing unique about sniper-rifles either. I'd expect a sniper rifle to at least use a higher caliber round, but again they use the same stock magazine and animation.

These are small details but they really pile up for me. I feel if you're going to try and imitate AAA shooters, at least try to have some variety

And you're right about the MCG... I've yet to see one person trying to shoot it while in cover, it's mostly used as a CQC weapon and even then it's not even a good one. But they're stubborn about it

I don't really mind they look bland. But the problem is is that every gun looks the same. As SturmovikDrakon says even the shotguns look like rifles. They just take a gun, change the stats on it and sell it into the store. I would like that they put more effort in how the guns look.

I can understand why flamethrowers were taken out, it harms performance and that isn't something you want at launch. I mean I have 38FPS with a Core I7 @4.2 and 680SLI and it install on an SSD.... I mean my GPU usage is like 40% on one card and I have to disable the other cause SLI doesn't work. My CPU never goes above 60% either. What is causing the performance issues? I think the player models are too detailed and that is the issue, they have too many layers to them when they only need one.

I just don't get why they've done stuff like removed that glorious MCG model, they've said why and it still doesn't make sense. When I think MCG I don't think of using a rifle with a spinning barrel lol.

The NC's GD-22S is like the only weapon with a different model from the rest in its category.

pretty much this. I have no desire at all to buy new guns if they are just the same with very slight variations in stats

A larger variety of weapons means having to hire more than 1 animator

Alright for your lasher question, they are there. The lasher works just like in planetside one where it was bad out doors and amazing in doors.

The MCG, the reason they did this was because you couldnt hide behind cover when firing it and we all know what happens when you dont hide behind cover in this game.

The Flak is too weak and i agree, but they stated that they wanted the hard counter for air to be other aircraft (maggie is also working on ES rocket launchers so im hoping the lancer makes a return.)

MAXes in this game are situational, so much you have different guns you can equip..Im not just talking about AA AV or AI. Im talking about faster firing or harder hitting. They all have uses..

As for the lock on rockets, it means they are ambushing you when you are too close the ground lock on rockets have about a 300m range before they lose a lock.

I dont know how you think the knife is weak but when that thing hits it hurts bad. As an infy you can pretty much 2 shot a softy with a knife and a bolt action. It hurts just as bad if you have a scout rifle.

I dont understand where you are seeing they are all the same, the only thing I have seen that is the same is the models used. They are very situational in how you use them, some are better at long range some are better at close range some are better for moving targets they all have their uses for something, even the VS and TR default sniper rifles.

As for the sounds, I think you either need to get your hearing checked or new speakers I can tell the difference between a sniper rifle or an automatic easy. Same with the empires, I can tell the difference from a TR gun versus a NC gun or VS gun. Hell im so used to VS that every time i hear the NS rifle fried I get confused.

I agree with some of your points but alot of them are just nuts, like we arent even playing the same game.

There is some distinction there, but not like PS1. In PS1, each weapon had a very distinct sound. This video gives a decent example.

Jackhammer: BAM-chicka, BAM-chicka, BAM-chicka, can slightly hear it at 0:29-0:30
Guass Rifle: choo-choo-choo-choo with like a little pop at the end of the firing. 2:00-2:03. 3:33-3:34. He's carrying it when the finally break out, so you hear it a lot then
Sweeper Shotgun: very dull shotgun sound, can hear it 0:22-0:23, 1:59-2:00
Sniper Rifle: Just a single loud bang sound. 0:54
Thumper with plasma grenades: 2:35
Decimator: Dumbfire rocket 3:25-3:26
Reaver rocketpods: 3:35-3:38, 5:13
Orbital Strike: 3:13

NC (Falcon?) MAX. I always got the AA MAX and the AV MAX confused. This is the AV MAX. 5:18-5:19

TR MCG: brrrrrrrp 1:48-1:49

VS Lasher: 5:39-5:40
VS Lancer: whaa-choo, whaa-choo, sounds like a laser gun charging up and firing 7:10-7:12 (the guy he's shooting)
VS Quasar MAX: 1:32
VS Starfire MAX: squeeker squeeker squeeker, can slightly hear it at 4:51-4:53. 5:40-5:41

There are many other weapons and sounds around, but you get the idea. I remember just sitting and listening to battles in PS1 and noticing all the different distinct sounds. Not so much for PS2.

Would like to see the common pool Punisher come back...would be a nice anti max weapon with middle ground anti inf capabilities....the six shot rocket launcher was cool too(dont remember the name)
