Hey guys first time posting. I've been playing this great game for a few weeks now and have only decided just decided that the engineer class is going to be the one I main. I went from Sniper to Light Assault to Heavy Assault until I found that engineer was the class that suited me. But before I get too into the class I had a few questions which I was hoping you guys could answer =)
1) I've been told it takes 1 mine to kill a quad while at least 2 to kill the bigger vehicles (from sundy up). How true is this? 2) If it does take at least 2 mines to kill a sundy or tank then does that mean in order for me to guarantee that the vehicle is destroyed that I have to place two mines right next to each other? 3) I am planning on getting both the mine upgrades so I can have 3 mines to block off roads etc but if it takes 2 mines to destroy a vehicle does that mean the best I can ask for is to damage the vehicle that drives over one of these mines? 4) Is there a chain effect with mines? If one goes off does it ignite the other if say it is 3 metre away? 5) If there is a chain reaction and for whatever distance it is for it to happen then would it be just as effective as laying them out in a line of a 3 metre distance then it would be to put them side by side? 6) If there is no chain reaction and the mines can only detonate unless they are directly driven over then would the most effective way to use these mines would be to put them right next to each other in a spot hoping a tank will drive over it rather then tactically laying all 3 out in a line increasing the chance by a fair margin? Sorry for the rant of questions but there isn't a lot of information on mines in the wiki that really helped me out. I appreciate the feedback. J |

2. No, as long as they drive over the 2nd too wherever you placed it. 3. We've pretty much answered this in the first question. 4. Yes. 5. Too dependent on the scenario and terrain to answer. 6. They don't need to be driven over to go off - you can drop them right next to a vehicle and they will blow after 3 seconds. ...also, I assume you are only talking about tank mines and not infantry mines. |

So I'm looking at getting the additional 3 mine upgrade but noticed you can get up to 5 which will cost another 1400 certs which is a butt-load of play time..in your opinion do you think it's worth it? |

But do not forget you also get extra bouncing betties or C4. So you will then use C4 instead of mines to destroy deployed enemy sunderers. One thing to keep in mind: yes, it's a lot of certs. You may be better off rounding up other classes/vehicles by buying their cheap certs before getting too deep in engineer. Maxing the repair and ammo tools first may also be a better choice (they are my XP bread and butter). |

Gotcha. Thinking of going the whole way and saving for 4 mines and maybe even the 5 (going to cost 1600 certs to get those 3 more but from what I've tested they are very effective, especially if I line them up in a checker-board pattern

Another question, how effective are the anti-tank grenades? Do they do the same damage as mines and C4?
Also, just read the current update:
*Edit* Yep, the palcement has been nerfed and prevents you from placing 2 quick tactical mines near or under a staionary vehicle and with a 3 second fuse they can only be used as actual minesn ow and not an alternative to C4's. Last edited by jassinlive; 2012-12-06 at 09:53 PM. |

- either the target vehicle is moving and your mines should already be placed on their most likely trajectory. - either the target vehicle is static and 3 seconds wont matter when you place your mines. The placement restriction is an annoyance because it will still show an animation of placing the mine when the mine is not actually being deployed. I haven't tried throwing them from the second floor so I cannot tell if that restriction is in. If it's the case, there will still be C4 that can be thrown and is not affected by mineguards. (it might pay more to cert C4 on the light assault though since you can fly to the target) Overall, it's a minor nerf (and a badly implemented one since you have no feedback to know if your mine was deployed or not deployed) and it will not change anything. I rather wish they'd add icons on the map to see your mines/betties on the map to check whether they are still active or not. |

FYI, if you are wondering why one of your mines would disappear: - any explosion will trigger them. e.g.: let's assume a friendly vehicle is above your mines and let's say he gets shot by an explosive weapon... Well... The mines will trigger, destroy the friendly vehicle and you will be credited for friendly fire. - be aware that you can only deploy the amount of mines you have certed for. e.g.: if you have 2 mines certed for, you can only have 2 deployed at the same time. Any extra mines you set up will make the previous one disappear. If you cert for 3, 4 or 5, you will be able to have 3, 4 or 5 mines deployed concurrently. Not 6; deploying a 6th mine will make the 1st disappear. FYI, it works the same way for bouncing betties. |
