A quick thought about certs and Auraxium

This just came to me as I was thinking about unlocking weapons and unlocking vehicle upgrades. When you got Auraxium you were also getting certs. You had two piles that were getting filled that were used to unlock things. But now we just have certs to pay for both things. So, for those of us who don't plan on spending much, the time it takes to unlock a weapon and get an upgrade for that weapon went up significantly when Auraxium was removed.

Just a thought.

Yes this was mentioned to death at the time when this change was made, and was ignored for the sake of "simplification".....

The beta forums were filled with explanations as to why just doing away with one and having everything on othe other was going to end up a bad idea in the long term./....

Ahh well

I figured it wasn't an original thought but I hadn't seen it before (I guess I must have missed that whole discussion). Thanks Thunder.

Wonder if they've taken this into account when balancing cert costs... seems that the costs are still the same but I don't remember the old exp to cert numbers to tell.

No. When they got rid of Auraxium they doubled the cert gain rates, active and passive. Auraxium wasn't good for anything and only complicated things, it was the right move.

There's been at least 1 cert rebalance since then. That rebalance could have ignored the duality basing its changes only off of the adjusted cert gain and the old number for the desired cert unlock rate. That's why I'd rather have numbers than simply pointing to the doubled cert gain rates.

It doesn't matter anyway since they can (and do) make the prices they want. If the gain rate was higher, the prices would be higher too and vice versa.

Keep in mind that the game is F2P with a cash shop. They don't want you to easily be able to get whatever you want for free.

Pay for station cash, buy weapons, quickly cert yourself all you need OR don't pay for station cash and deal with the grind while carefully selecting what you need most.

To be honest you should be happy you can get everything for free and that the default stuff is relatively balanced compared to the shop items. In many games you're not that lucky. And even here it may change in time.

The OP is wrong.

Its fine if you want to complain about the costs now and say they should be changed - but the old system was a mess.

Maybe... But you get 1 cert every 250 exp now instead of every 500 exp as before.

But Auraxium had to go for one reason. To remove the hundreds of AFK bots in the warpgate that just stands there and take up server space just to get "free" aurixium.

I agree that certs and weapon unlocks should be separate. I was kinda hoping they'd try to salvage the Auraxium system as just a factor of experience, or to otherwise have a separate pile of certs for weapon access and unlocks.

Financially, the downside of this is that players will have an easier time holding out for weapons instead of buying with SC, so unless weapon unlock cert prices or Auraxium for weapons was increased significantly compared to current proportions, it would hurt earnings to go this route.
