Question Mics and Ingame VOIP-Who uses it, or doesn't? Why?

So.. Here's a question or three for ya.

I'm actually quite a fan of the VOIP system in-game. The system in place for PS1 was quite literally Hell. Half the time you got nothing but static, yet you could be rocking Turtle Beach's latest baby that gave flawless audio input in any other situation.

The only time that it gets a bit tedious or difficult is when massive groups are coordinating in Command chat, while my whole outfit is hogging squad/platoon chat. In short, I'm content with this system, I just wish we could selectively listen in to certain channels.

If you don't use in-game VOIP, what service do you use? TS? Ventrilo? Some other 3rd party app that no one knows about?

And if neither of those apply to you.. Why don't you use VOIP in-game?

And finally..
What do you guys think could be done to the current VOIP system to help improve it? I've only ever seen issues that are client-side. Also, the server seems to keep it up quite well-the only problems I've had are when I (or the other person) had 1-5 FPS on average or had bad connectivity.

Fire away.

We use a combination of Teamspeak and the in game VOIP. I agree with you that we need a better way to manage our comms & audio. I would love to see a"COMMS" screen added where you could select "channels", mix the audio levels and have the ability to integrate third party programs like TS and audio players like Winamp. Yes I know we have some settings we can access in game, but I'm asking for something much more complex.

The VOIP system in game is excellent its just people dont spend the time to balance their mic volume so it ends up in hordes of people clipping and just a cluster fuck of garbled static.

I use the VOIP to call people stupid for doing stupid things.

I myself don't use local VOIP (though I have it on) simply because there are too many players with VOIP off.
Miller NC Leadership VOIP is usually very active (especially WASP, 252nd, and Zhukov, in particular), I myself don't participate in the chatter, but it has more to do with the current active playercount in our outfit.

They need to fix the mute option though, if you leave the vicinity of muted local VOIP player the mute resets.

PS: I found out today that there is an option in voice settings called "Ducking". This one is responsible for volume reduction of the game while VOIP is transmitting.

I use the local VOIP and Teamspeak... it depends on what the current squad is using really.

I mainly use local VOIP over text coz I cant type, shoot, nade and run all at the same time

Agree with LoliLoveFart (love that name) about mic balance... It only takes a couple of minutes at the WG to get it sorted.

I don't use any in game voip.

My team and I have been using TS for years and have no reason to go to an in game system. It allows us to talk and play other games using the same voice program.

I really like the ingame voip. Whenever Im doing just a pickup game with friends we always use the ingame chat. The proximity chqt is fantastic and I use it all the time. Just the other day I saw a dd officer who had his sundy stuck and I let rip with a laugh and a couple choice comments, proximity chat is perfect for that sorta thing.

Taunting.

A couple of my mates sing sea shanties to their victims as they fly point blank over them in the good ship Liberat-aahhhrgh...

It's pretty funny, actually

I came from APB so I know just how bad a in game VOIP can be, first thing I did was turn it off so I didn't have to listen to every pre and post pubescent idiots on the server.
My outfit uses mumble.

Bird of Preeeyyyy....

Yeah, I use Teamspeak for my mates who are on, squad chat because I'm SL a lot, platoon chat to talk to the commander (which is shit. I'd like to whisper direct to him rather than broadcast it to the whole platoon) and often I'll need to use outfit chat and proximity chat depending on what's going on. I'm probably not going to cert into faction chat because it'd just get more confusing.

In short, I use a combination of in-game and out-of game but I have so many chat buttons I get it wrong a lot.

Things to improve would be to be able to have some sort of /sitrep so that Squad Leaders get info from squaddies without the rest of the squad hearing (bitching about the dead weight?) and a similar thing for SLs to PLs.

In the future, Alliance chat?

I don't and my outfit doesn't.

We have TS and it's better so why bother.

I leave it on and thankfully there's not a lot of proximity chat. I don't like the thought of leader chat and again thankfully it's not used much. Too much (random) chatter is a big turn off for me.

I always have it on, yesterday was the first day where I noticed someone else use it though.
Since there still is a serious lack of VS Outfits on LithCorp, I am in none, joining random squads and hoping that they use some tactics.
Needless to say that I had a blast playing yesterday with a squadleader frequently giving orders via Ingame Voicechat, and other players joined in telling about enemies, where they approach and so on.
The voice quality of the squadleader was rather messed up though... but most of the others could be understood much better, so I guess the quality problem came from the squadleader and not the system.

It was the first time I ever heard someone use it, no prox chat or anything, so it doesn't seem to be wide-spread among Players on LithCorp...

Sometimes we use radios to communicate at work. The native chat to me sounds like a little like a real radio. I guess its old fashioned in the age of digital perfection but I kind of like the crakly quality of the ingame chat.
