There was a post by gunshooter in one of the threads about how all sniper rifles were the same across all factions, now that's incorrect, simply because NC get a bolt-action rifle by default and TR/VS get semi-auto ones, however that actually made me quite curious if the bolt action rifles are indeed the same or not.
So I created a VS char today, got 100 CP and purchased the XM98 Orbit, which I assumed to be the Boltdiver analog according to its low price, but the weapon turned out to be an actual downgrade even to the semi-automatic one. What I noticed in comparison to NC Boltdriver is very low stability (any shot fired at you makes your CoF go wild, along side with screen shake basically making your scope do the upper breakdance), a very wierd bulletdrop and slightly lower damage. Does anyone know if that weapon IS supposed to be the VS boltdriver or there's actually another one? This question is mostly directed at PS2 Beta Participants, that were using sniper rifles back when devs implemented the first sidegrade weapon for Infiltrators. Statistically speaking, the XM98 is identical to the Bolt Driver and M77-B (TR).
And yes, there shall appear many moments where a bolt action rifle is a downgrade from semi-auto ones. Personally I find it entirely worthwhile to buy both and use either one depending on the situation. Last edited by AThreatToYou; 2013-01-08 at 03:17 PM. |

link On paper, Boltdriver (NC), M77-B (TR) and XM98 (VS) are identical. |

Hmmm... Considering boltdriver is called NC14 Bolt Driver I would assume that Ghost VS12 is the one I'm gonna try next, especially in the light of what you just said. |

The V10 is bolt-action as well. IIRC it's got higher velocity rounds so there's less apparent bullet drop.
It's what I use when I'm infiltrator, it came with Alpha Squad so not much reason to grab something else.

Just trialed it. Feels exactly the same to me. The rechambering animation though is a no go for me, uses way to much monitor space and somehow this upmovement makes me a little motion sick. Think they should change it so that the rifle is hold as low as when changing the mag err sorry battery.
