Graphics card not compatible

OK, so my friend uses a laptop with a AMD M880g with ATI mobility Radeon HD 4250. Yesterday he downloaded Planetside 2 and when he tried to play for the first time, it gave him a message saying that his graphics card was not compatible. He tried it a few times more and got the same message.

Any reason why?

P.S. My friends laptop has better specs than the computer I play on.

Re: Graphics card not compatible

Based on this chart, the lowest card I'd recommend playing with is Mobility HD 3670, which is actually 4 tiers above the 4250.

Brand scheme numbering isn't very consistent across desktop and mobile platforms, so a desktop HD 5770 is roughly as powerful as a 6800M, and an NVidia GTX 7800 mobile is also much more potent than a Mobility Radeon HD 5470.

Way too low end of a video card to be using for PS2 unfortunately, much less any other modern games maybe besides LoL.

ok thanks. one more question, where does a desktop with just a Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset stack up against my friend's laptop graphics card?

I don't use my computer with the Intel(R) to play planetside but, it still let's me into the game and walk around. Only thing is that it is to laggy to really play. The computer I do play on has a AMD Radeon HD 7450d. On the Radeon I can play smooth enough to repair, heal, fly, etc.

Thanks again guys.

Re: Graphics card not compatible

The G41 is old now and was only intended for desktop usage really. In terms of power I would expect the 4250 to be a stronger option, but both are still extremely limited in gaming performance. I don't recommend either trying to play this game as you will absolutely awful FPS regardless of settings.

As to why you can launch it on the Intel one? My only assumption is that SOE made it so X AMD/Nvidia cards can't launch the game if it isn't playable, like what happened with the 4250. They probably assumed no one would even bother trying to play on older Intel iGPU.

For the record your computer will perform far better in games with that 7540D compared to your friend's setup. Your GPU is far more powerful and judging by the 880G you mentioned I'm willing to bet you have a stronger CPU. With all that I don't find any of this too shocking.

The trinity 7450D is miles above and beyond either your Intel G43 or your 4250. Use that.
