PSU Crossroads

In our short time in this community, PlanetSide Universe has completely blown away all our expectations. We recently hit 2,000 members on the forums, and 1 million hits on the site! With our site growing daily in popularity, as well as our IRC. The time has come for a decision.

Our server has been taxed recently, causing disconnect problems on IRC and some site downtime. After considering this for a week or so and having a conversation with my ISP, and staff, I have decided that we must invest in more servers for PSU to stay as it is today. The website is not in jeopardy however, IRC and AGN could be. I feel that the IRC server is one of our HUGE strong points here at PSU, I would hate to lose it as I believe it is one of the things that gives this community a home for their outfits and various chats. Also, imo AGN is going to be just as big as the website and IRC. Rather than wait till PS release and have a HUGE influx of users crashing our servers. We must bite the bullet now.

More servers mean more $$, I cannot afford to pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars monthly, If I could I would not be making this post. So I am going to you, the community for donations to keep PSU IRC alive. I do not have a total goal in terms of donations, however I would like to get near 1000$ to start off. This would pay for some new servers for a few months, then we would do this all over again.

So, the survival of various things here on PSU depends on you, the users. Just as your visits and forum posting keeps this site alive your money will also. If I cannot raise enough to justify some new servers I will have to look into some possible advertising, resulting in banners and slower load times.

put some ad banners on the side of the site, or try to be like the official fan site or something and sony might plop you a few big ones. just a few thoughts, i don't mind ads, just as long as they don't pop up, banners are coo

Ill try to donate in the next month or 2 i got a nice pay raise so i could probably afford to donate then. Money is still tight at the moment after upgrading my comp and about to buy a nice paintball gun

This is a big issue. Every penny counts, We have a community of 2,000 people. If everyone were to contribute, We could raise tons of money to have faster servers and better stability. I hope you guys dig deep and make a contribution, Its simple. If your one of the following, you should definetly consider this guys. PSU offers alot, AGN, IRC Server, Outfit hosting, ODB, the list goes on for miles!!! You can help donate, What do you get if you donate?

with the amount of members u have and hits u get u could make some serious $$$ out of this site. I believe u should set up a poll to ask people if they would mind if you but like maybe one or two ads per page on the leftside or on the top people could deal with it for the better of the site.

is there any way you can get sponsored (hosted) by sony?
or maybe you could set up a deal and change the url and get hosted by gamespy.com they have www.planet(game).com for like every game, you could be planetplanetside.com and i bet they'd do it. just suggesting free ways to do this

Id like to preface this post with saying that I am giving some money atm.

This is actually my first post, ive been trolling for a week now or so since i got intersted in this game again (back in the day i played EQ and heard of it like 2 years ago). I feel that a site is not hindered by ads. Ads dont hurt the site as long as they are subtle and follow the design of a site. I think that if ads are needed to make thsi site run fast and allow the staff to provide us with up to the minute info and a place to share our ideas and concerns than a few ads are ok. Hopefully you can get a large amount from the donatations.

I definitely want to show my support for this community, because frankly, I don't know if I've ever stayed and posted on a fan site longer than this one. I think it's a rarity to have a courteous staff made up of fans of a game.

I hope PSU never succumbs to ads (unless they are Sony ones). Just give a little bit, if only 500 people gave 10 dollars, PSU could run for a whole year. Think of all the time you spend here, cheaper than a movie huh?

or think if everyone gave only 1 dollar! that's enough for 2+years i might sometime, i don't have my own card but after this summer, if it's not too late, i'll have extra money to send thru my moms card.
