Projectiles and the mini map

With the imminent introduction of the pheonix and lancer I just want to raise something that I think will immensely improve the game at present.

This relates to lock on missiles / dumb fire missiles / camera guided / artillery shells rocket type projectiles.

There is nothing more annoying for any type of armour player than seeing chunks of health disappear from your health bar with no indication as to where it is coming from.

It used to really be the liberator only that had this where you would be taking damage but you actually wouldnt even see the projectiles impacting - probably because they were firing from out of render range. This happens a lot with maximum altitude liberators that you can't even touch.

This has actually become a little more widespread lately with the engineer AV turret - but this is surely a sign of things to come with the pheonix being just an improved version of the AV turret.

A great tactical advantage of the guided missiles are that they dont produce a lock on. So there is no evasive manouvering until you are actually hit. In PS1 there was the same mechanic, however, you could see the projectiles coming in on the mini map.

We've all seen the Rocket nests tactic being used where 4/5 HAs would pick targets and one shot armour. NC in PS1 used to buddy up all the time and were very effective deterrants to armour. It's a good way to bring back some of that PS1 teamwork. I am 100% all for bring back the old AV weapons.

However, it does mean that the armour wont know where the threat is coming from or that there is a threat until the missiles hit.

Without the missiles being shown on the minimap like in PS1 this means that the sundy/tank driver will just simply die extremely quickly with no warning. NC will buddy up and will sit in the spawn rooms and camera guide Pheonixes (which may do significant damage) into the armour that are anywhere near a base (dont forget there are no longer doors which were a major deterrant to using a pheonix and ensure that the courtyard of a heavily defended base wouldnt just be cleared by the pheonixes which dont require los.

Armour really does suffer at the moment with basically every class and vehicle other than medic having very good Anti Vehicle options and tactics which can do a lot of damage to vehicles.

I'm just suggesting that the game would be a much better place when we get yet another guided missile option if these guided missles or projectiles displayed on the minimap - bullet fire and AA has tracers providing tactical hints to the target as to how to evade. Lock on rockets are meant to have lock on warnings and vapour trails. We need something for guided missiles which don't need LOS. LOS Users, e.g. lock on rockets and Beam type weapons need to expose themselves in order to take the shot.

Good idea. However, minimap has a bug (or is it a latency issue or something?) where it would show things with quite a significant delay, or show vehicles long gone or destroyed as present and active. I imagine it would be even worse with fast moving projectiles

Absolutley correct...

although the reversing thing where left and right get swapped and then confusingly unswapped is probably the biggest annoyance for anything not a magrider.

I'm with you on that one ringring - the tracked tanks have the worst control system ever - can we get that 'fix' on the roadmap for that too?

It is completely awful. At least have it as an option on the settings for the tracked vehicles.

More minimap clutter? Sorry, until they make minimap more readable, don't add more (albeit useful) informations on it...

The minimap is one of the weakest parts of the game right now in my opinion. It's cluttered, doesn't show useful info that isn't directly around you, and has many bugs.

I completely forgot PS1 did this. You could even tell a Starfire by its velocity curve on the map. Well, that, and its annoying chirping.

Thumbs up request!
