Had an idea the other day.
Imagine this. 6 months into the game, your engaged in a battle over a base when suddenly a strange, dominating black clad character appears in the battle. He begins tossing players left and right with waves of his arms, causing immense devastation. Near invunerable to damage, he clears the battle field then disappears. No one survives. He's not recognisable as any side, wearing some evil looking armour. He's an automoton created by the planet to repel these pesky insects running over it's surface, disrupting it's power matrix by grafting human technology on (in the form of bases). He has no name. There's only one per server, and he only appears now and again. He's actually controlled by a GM and would add a certain RP element to the game, some mystery and some much needed spice; maybe something for the factions to team up against, if temporarily. I know that this may be; 1) Lame to be killed like this after spending an hour preparing your attack. 2) Bring a RP element that this game has almost completely moved away from. But just imagine the mystery and discussions this would invoke, as well as the response when he's spotted again? Could be the beginning of the continuing story of Auraxis.

Why do you think RP elements have been completely moved out of this game? Because there is real action? What does DAoC, EverQuest, or Asheron's Call, etc. have that this does not? There will still be a social hierarchy. You will still need to play as a team. You will need to plot and devise clever tactics to win over objectives. Is it the lack of "quests"? Instead of preset game quests that you can look up how to do online you will have quests doled out by soldiers who have proven an ability to lead. Quite a collection of background information and independent stories have already been written about this game. It'll be a nice to have a MMO game where the determining factor in where a players stands is more then how much time they have to dump into the game.

Personally i was stomped by GMs enough in the so called EQ GM events....
Having a base assault thrown off due to a GM going nuts isn't my idea of fun.. Having GM's come in and take control of large player armies and lead a 2 or 3 sided battle as a high ranking general would be more fun imo. |

On reflection I think it's one of those things that looks great on paper, but is lame in reality.
It does lead me onto other idea though. I'll babble about that in another thread, as it's rather off topic.

intead of having some uber god like being just come and bring you sudden doom, mabye like an outfit of unknowns appear from time to time and they may either help you take a base or may be helping another faction take your base, or even might just ambush you in the middle of nowhere...but not like something impossible to be killed that would suck to much and cause more fury and frustration to those of us who dont want to get raped after spending 15 minutes running towards enemy lines. i mean something to that sort would be kinda cool but i dont think we will have to worry about that

hey, that last idea sounds kinda cool, like a band of GM mercenaries. Every now and then they get together and decide to help a team that is struggling in a certain region, appearing on different continents, helping different people. Sounds like a neat idea, but they would have to be struggling for some time though. You don't want to take a base then immediatly have an elite band of mercs attacking. If the based is assulted insuccessfully a bunch of times, then they might help out. I dunno, I just like the sound of the particular idea, keeps the game moving.
