Basically the title but I"m thinking of using the water bottle collumns to hold water for the plumbing also! Pheasible not pheasible. I've seem stuff on building then house but not if you use it for water storange and ups or downs of it.
Is it possible? any difficulties with using the walls for water like tempurature. I was thinking about how you could do this and thought I'd stick the idea up here to see if anyone else has any ideas or thoughts. If possible I would like to do this eventualy. 8) Anyone buy ICE MOUNTAIN brand bottles water. They have unique shapped bottles. I was thinking of those. I already know they lock together well. But have an odd shape in the middle that leaves gaps. http://www.staples.com/Ice-Mountain-Bottled-Spring-Water-169-oz-Bottles-24-Case/product_705031 It's this exact bottle. if you cut the bottom off at the first indented ring it goes perfectly over the top of another bott over it's top ring. And tightly. Would probably just need to be sealed with glue or something. Either way has anyone ever done one of these projects or thought about it etc? 8) I was thinking it would be cool to make plumbing out of them if they stacked up 15 feet. Could add auto misters inside so it rains inside and out and have a valve to let it wiht higher access point for the water when it's full and possibly and another set of tubes at the base for more presure for general use or controlled use like a hose or if I want to run the mister when it's not raining etc. Also could fill with salt during the winter to get rid of ice. If it stays warm it could be used like those nice streat de-icers. And then just need a way to feed a few columns to clean the system out for spring or to get rid of build up. 8) Last edited by Ait'al; 2013-04-01 at 05:22 PM. |

i used to have a neighbor who was a crazy dog lady that did this. not sure how, she moved out about two years ago. Short of it is that it works if you have a pumping system hooked up somehow also in order to keep the water in a constant cycle (stagnant water is bad, k?), you would also need a scrubber to filter dirt and other things from the water if you wanted to ever use it for drinking.
EDit: So yeah, double checked but a filter is pretty much a bottle that water is collected in at some point in the gravity chain where you layer rocks and sand two or three times, ending with rocks on the very bottom. you use a cap with holes in it to keep the rocks and such in it, while the water drips down the rest of the pipe/cycle. depending on the amount of water, it can easily back up a little ways, especially if it gets clogged with debris from other parts. that merely filters most contaminants out, you'd still have to purify it. or you can just buy a filter. easier.

then you don't need the filter. you can just set a pump up and let gravity+sunlight do the rest. pump from a fish tank should work unless you need larger capacity. i guess you could also use a fish tank for the overall storage/collection.

I think htere is a misunderstanding. The bottles are the storage. They would be the walls of the greenhouse but also used as teh gravity in parralel in the wall. I would have the bottom one witht one tube outlet. They would have the caps off, except in certain locations depending on exact design(more than likely all open on walls except the very top, or if I tried to design something to get water in the cieling), and would be filled with water collected from rain etc. Outside storage would just be in addition. The structure would also have to be designed for teh changes in strenght if an issus but.. 8) There are spaces to add things to make the wall solid. Plus you could lay a layer to the outside that is flush witht he frame and use it to make a mold for some acrylic I'm sure. But hopefull you get the idea. the bottles would have the bottoms cut out and placed over each other and sealed. With opening cut inside for flow etc.
