Hi guys,
tl;dr: mines put under your parked vehicle force you to abandon it, as there is no way to remove enemy mines without making them explode. maybe the engineer could get a battlefield-like ability to remove enemy at-mines? now that anti tanki mines do not explode instantly anymore if put next to a non moving vehicle, i often find my and other people's vehicles made immobile with no chance whatsoever to get it back on track again. an enemy engineer runs to your vehicle and is able to put a few mines beneath it before you can kill him. engineer dead, vehicle doomed nevertheless. in this case i was lucky enough to have put my sundy in its special parking position^^, but i had to abandon it, no way to get it out of this situation. other than in the open field, where you "defuse" mines by shooting at them with no allies to harm near them, you can not do this if your vehicle will not survive the given amount of damage, dealt by that bunch of stacked mines, all exploding at once. this makes me think: would an ability for the engineer to disarm enemy anti tank mines (as far as i remember the engi in bf2 could do this) be good for the game? the only effect this would have was to give you the chance to rescue your parked vehicle, IF you are quick enough to kill the enemy engineer before he can trigger his mines OR IF he fails to trigger them and you check your vehicle before driving away. so, what do you think? The Combat Flow Designer (cant remember his name ) mentioned Mine defusing during the Dev Debrief IIRC. It was either there or Higby said it somewhere. They are thinking about a solution for that "problem".
On the other hand a note to all the Engineers out there. Cert Sticky Grenades (they work now!) and just stick a grenade under the sundere before/while you throw your mines. It goes boom and you are a happy engineer |

Yeah this is being changed. Shooting or exploding a mine in the future will simply defuse it. Higby mentioned it a while back. They should have put out the changes at the same time. Would have helped to not confuse people.

Engi approaches enemy mine and "press E to disarm" appears. Hold E and you get a countdown timer as if you were an infil hacking. Easy for tank mines but tricky for anti personnel; the disarm message would have to appear just outside the mine's detection radius, so an engi moving slowly could approach a betty or claymore and defuse it without setting it off. |

AP mines are not a problem the way AV mines are.
even a bunch of ap mines under my sundy barely scratches its surface when exploding at once, they will not destroy my vehicle. and if i see an ap mine, i warn my squad and shoot it to disarm it, so nobody gets hurt. no (urgent) need for a dedicated defuse-ability there, compared to the av mines case, as they do not put you into a situation with no way out. and, while we're at it... what i as an engineer sometimes wish for (haven't thought it through yet concerning balancing etc): would be handy to be able to "collect" av mines to reuse them. at least my own ones i laid out in advance to defend a base which then has not been attacked. because when i start putting mines in all good spots around a base, i usually run out of mines and ressources to build new ones and still have not secured the place enough. and if i now, when the threat is over and all my mines are a couple of hexes behind the frontlines, could retake them... would be nice. |

Mines shouldn't explode when you shoot them anyways, because that just means people can still insta-mine sunderers by just throwing the mines and then shooting them.
Or, at the very least, they should do less damage when you shoot them to blow them up. That actually is realistic, if you make a hole in a bomb and the explosive inside goes off the resulting explosion will have much less force than it would have if the bombs body was fully intact, because pressure can't fully build if it has a way to escape.
