Mouse Axis Rebinding in GU08

Please for the love of god SOE implement mouse axis rebinding in GU08. I hate flying in this game with mouse and keyboard because the mouse x axis is roll and not yaw.

Considering that the fastest way to change direction in an ESF is to roll the destination into the vertical plane and pitch into it, I don't know why you'd want to move those off your mouse.

He doesn't realize that even if he did change the mouse axis he would have to move the mouse beyond the edge of the mousepad to do a simple 180.

Though I suppose that might change if he has the dogfighting frame.

He doesn't want to not roll, he wants to roll with the keyboard and keep the mouse for accuracy.

The trouble is unless you have a maxed out dogfighting airframe, it will feel like your mouse has different sensitivities for the two axes if you are using it in this way. Left-right will feel sluggish as all hell while up-down will feel WHEEEEEE.

Even with maxed out dogfighting airframe, I doubt the sensitivity will feel the same between the two axes if you are using the mouse to yaw.
You can't force this game's aircraft to handle the same way as aircraft from other games with different mechanics. This is why I gave up trying to fly with a joystick.

edit: I would like to clarify, I am not against the proposed ability to bind your mouse axis to whatever you want, merely pointing out that it will not be the godsend OP thinks it will be.

I can see the argument for lining up shots on stationary targets, since weapon placement is roll-agnostic. But in a dogfight? Man, good luck. DF3 increases axial rotations equally. Changing which axis has the analog input doesn't make you magically turn faster - ESFs, like contemporary counterparts, still pitch much harder than they yaw.

It isn't about being able to force his ESF/Lib to Turn on a dime horizontally. He wants to be able to have Precision control over his left/right movements to more easily land his bullets on smaller targets. I have similar troubles of missing many of my early shots when flying before being able to dial-in with A-D to land shots, especially with the Tank Buster when my buddy lets me fly his lib...to horrible effects most times :3

Like, nobody thinks it will make them turn faster.

You can roll just fine with keyboard, in fact, just about every flight sim out there makes you roll with keyboard if you are playing without a joystick.

Additionally, there is no analog axis as long as you are playing with KMB, they are both digital. The precision required for rolling is negligible as there isn't really anything worth rolling precisely for (vertical gaps, etc), aligning shots is a matter of precision and since all the air vehicles in this game function like helicopters instead of planes, it is -far- more logical to have the precision to yaw with the mouse.

Tap-tap-tapping your horizontal sights is bad, try to play anything where you control your horizontal viewport with a pulsed digital button (d-pad) and you end up in 1990 with starfox, except that one wasn't really about 6-axis movement.

In fact, the controls are so horrible that even with a high-end joystick you can not properly fly things without editing the .ini because the deadzone is like 3km large and you have sensitivity is out the wazoo.

I pity the people who have a HOTAS and thought they'd use it on PS2.

I've tried 3 ways to play PS2 air vehicles, KBM, Flightstick, 360 Controller, none of these controls can be called comfortable or even "working" and I'm not new to flight-sims.

PS2 is not a flight sim, it's a good mix of some realism and fast paced arcade style combat

So, today I will max out my dogde fight airframe!
Just because hovering is no longer safe with all those phoenix users.
And the speed is ridiculous, an increase of 220 to 235 of speed is bullshi7 for 700 certs.

Re: Mouse Axis Rebinding in GU08

It would be a waste of time coding this. The ESFs in this game can't be properly manuevered if the mouse was remapped away from rolling and pitching the aircraft. If the devs wasted their time implementing this the only thing that would happen is people who remapped their mouse to yaw would complain that yawing with the mouse is pointless and cumbersom... there are like a bajillion things the devs for this game say they want to work on, why should they take ignore one of those items to create a broken mechanic that wol't work with the vehicle anyway?

Having the ESF is controlled with roll and pitch on the mouse is the only logical way to have the controls for the ESF mapped; learn how to use those controls (and bind max pitch to two buttons on your mouse).

Re: Mouse Axis Rebinding in GU08

For the life of me I still can't get a good feel for jets in games. Using a mouse I can never get the needed amount of input for up/down without resetting it time after time. And if using a controller or joystick I can never input movements fast enough to keep up or end up getting out of control from not feeling the forces of the aircraft. But put me in a chopper and I can dance on air with ease.

Why can't PS2 have an aircraft that flies like a chopper? Flack would be a bitch with how slow choppers are but being able to hug within meters of the the ground near anything can counter that as well as lock-ons. The best I can do with an ESF is land maybe a few rockets per pass if I can even make it to a target with the huge ass on the Reaver.

It is mandatory to have mouse buttons mapped to max pitch up and down, it is not optional.

Problem with that though. My mouse only has 5 buttons total. M1-2, middle, and 2 extra that I use for teamspeak and squad chat. There's only a few keys even that I might be able to rebind without messing up muscle memory that isn't easy to get for my left hand. 5,t,g,b and anything to the right of those keys are no good for my left hand to find without looking for it and if I do use them I need to recenter over WASD every time. Some times if I don't look down I end off hovering over ESDF (where you place fingers to type).

It might be an idea to make ESDF my WASD, never thought of that. Shifting everything over by one key would give the ring finger 3 more keys to use (QAZ) at the cost of the number keys being off. Might try that. Come to think of it.

Why is WASD the norm in gaming? In every school and computer class Iv ever took it has be drilled into me to hold the left fingers over ASDF. And there's even a little tit on most keyboards on the F and J keys to help with hand placement. Kinda make since to give those 3 extra buttons (QAZ) to the pinky or ring finger by using ESDF. That question is going to bug me now all day tomorrow.
