Frequent Crashing Fix

Since GU8 this game seems to be repeatedly crashing for many people and as often as every 5 to 60 minutes. Last ditch before trying a fresh Operating system install I simply Renamed my UserOptions.ini file to UserOptions.ini___.

Surprisingly that fixed the problem for my system. Now I only get a crash every few hours of play and those crashes always write to outofmemory.txt. The outofmemory issue could be because I'm running 2560x1440 resolution and the games memory leaks.

For me starting with a fresh UserOptions.ini file eliminated the "Ultra" graphics settings and other tweaks I've made over time that might be causing crashing since the GU8 update.

Worth a try if your stuck with the frequent crashing issue since GU8.

Renaming UserOptions.ini___ back to its proper name will restore your settings if needed.

Will have to try it when I get home. This has been an ongoing issue for me and my resolution is no where near yours.

You didn't have to rename it, you could have just deleted it.

GU08 saw a lot of changes to the settings in that file. Most don't do anything now. It's best to just delete it and start fresh with GU9 and only modify the settings that appear in the file.

Renaming it allows you to have a copy so you can duplicate all the settings you've customized. It also allows you to restore it easily. Deleting it would work but without a copy you're starting from scratch setting your system up again.

BTW: 7 hours without a crash and I probably would have had 10-20 crashes in that time period since GU8. I think the crashes were coming from pushing all ULTRA settings on the GPU. Now I'm just running the highest settings the game will allow without editing the ini file. Only one Ultra option is available in this update.

Re: Frequent Crashing Fix

This definitely fixed my frequent crashing. With 20+ hours of additional testing I'm down to 1-2 crashes per day instead of 5-10 times that amount.

Re: Frequent Crashing Fix

didn´t fix anything for me.
but my crashing problem started prior to gu8

edit:
today i played for over an hour without a crash.
seems like turning off physix was the fix for me.

so if you keep crashing to desktop with "ps2 stopped working" or some similar error message every few minutes, try to turn off physix
