During last week's FNO the devs said they are considering puting a base on the small "island" between the bridges linking Scared Mesa Skydock and Regent Rock Garisson.
I propose that instead of doing that put some uncapturable fortifications on that island such as some barricades for cover maybe a small bunker (more on how id see thosel ater) or 2 facing each bridge and one of those sunderer "garages" they showed on the revamped Esamir bases. This would be defensive infrastructure that players can make into a base with a little effort. Such outposts could be placed at certain chokepoints that are not fully fledged bases or as an outer layer of a base's defences. For inctance on that hill just south east of Howling pass overlooking the southern road. Bunkers: These would be entirely new structures but they wouldnot be terribly fancy. Siomply a "boxy" building with a doorway in the back and fireing fportso n the front and sides. The fireing ports would be about as wide as the "fortified" windows they put in some buildings a while back. They would be exactly at a standing infantry man's height so he has a clear line of sight to stuff in front of the bunker and enaugh room to crouch for cover. The front ones would take up almost half of the building's with each and the side ones would be no larger than the window ports in regular buildings. The special feature of the bunkers would be special port with a small raised platform designed specificaly for mana turrets. It would be large enaugh to not restrict the turret's fireing angle significantly but would be too small for anyone to get in through there. A second feature would be a small one sided forcefield or bullet proof glass window at the operator's face height protecting him from being sniped. This would force attackers to either take out the turret (easy with AV manas not so much with the anti infantry ones) or push through it's fire. Last edited by MrMak; 2013-06-01 at 08:55 AM. |

This type of gameplay was covered quite extensively by a group in the community I was part of, called the PlanetSide Idea Lab. Unfortunately only a handful of ideas we developed were ever implmented by the developers, due to SOE all but cannabailising the team for EverQuest II (b*******).
The old site is still active, however, which includes an "Emplacements" section: http://planetside-idealab.com/idea_emplacements.shtml |
