Yup, that's all it is.

Have any ESF drop on its belly and it will not take any damage no matter how high it was and maybe how fast it was moving. But if you tilt it just a little bit or find a pointy rock and half health is gone if lucky. I do it all the time when I piss around in the WG waiting for a queue or just messing about in the VR.

Iv even crash landed with full AB just for the hell of it and hardly took damage after skidding across the ground.

If you are using them for covert insertions is actually important that you tilt down before bailing so the aircraft isnt sitting there to give you away.
