I just hate the automation of player motivation. They're cute and fun at times, but all day long over and over? How about 2 a day? That's 4 of 24 hours of potential gameplay. That's playing Alertside 1/6 of the time.
Here's another idea. You win the Alert, you win the continent and it completely flips to your color.

Agreed, alerts should be a kind of last resort when fighting has become sporadic. Really, there shouldn't be an alert if all goes well during prime time.
To say that winning an alert = capping a cont...that's a bit much. And by a bit I mean a byte. |

What we had was continent-side
Now we have alert-side What we should have in planetside. In other words it should be a war and the war should be sufficient reason to motivate the fight. At present the motivation is the XP provided by the alert system (which happen back to back with a deep breath in between) but the motivation should be winning the war which rages across continents. XP is a poor substitute. |

I don't think there's any reason to discuss this because of this mechanic popping up too frequently. To me it seems that it's starting every 4 hours on low traffic times which feels right: Two hours on, two hours off.
You've got to remember that Alerts don't necessarily stop the regular meta-game from happening: You frequently see factions "abusing" the Alert to break/get a lock on another continent. |

Actually, I think alerts need to go. Yes, they are good in theory but on servers which already have population problems the current alerts seem to drive people off. I am already hearing people in my outfit talking about how they are already sick of getting beaten on every one of them by the overpop faction. It's simply not a fun mechanic when pops aren't even, that's why we decided that we don't go for alerts anymore if it doesn't happen to be where we curently are at anyways.
It just strengthens the fourth faction. (not saying that my outfit is but when it's already pissing off seasoned players, what will John Doe do?) Last edited by Emperor Newt; 2013-06-07 at 09:17 AM. |
