It's not a MCG it is a rifle and playing again you've even taken out the spin time, so now it basically is any other rifle. The weapon design is so bland, you don't have the variety that you did in Planetside, it's all just the same rifle. In Planetside we had the rocket pod launcher, the alien Cavern guns, we have 3 unique HA weapons that were all drastically different. We even got the flamethrower later on, which looked terrible but at least it was something. I even remember having noob tubes with plasma and stuff that dealt damage over time.
In Planetside 2 it's a boring rifle, every gun, the shotguns look like rifles and suck tbh, the smgs look like rifles and really the snipers look like long rifles... everything just blends into the same thing! You look at the store and every gun is the same red (or whatever faction you're on) colour, they all look the same and you end up just looking at the stats instead of what the weapon looks like and does. I cannot get excited to play the game as a troop because the guns are boring and I haven't purchased a single gun because they're all boring. |

1 I think its a fun weapon.
2 STFU whiner - Its not as if you frequently play the game and occasionally dont like something. You occasionally play the game just so you can find stuff to bitch about.

His postings have degraded to the level of bitching for the sake of bitching. Doesn't really add anything to the discussions within this community or the development of the game if you ask me. |

a few things..
this build of the mcg is a beast,,,,, i fing love it great close range with a laser.... conc a room start spinning up before you breach and everyone is dead. , great med range with ext mag,you can sustain a great cof when you get use to shooting down the sites.200 rounds down field in a tight group is not a bad thing. i will say most of the tr weapons are lackluster for the most part when compared to nc and vs.i see it like this...nc get the hardest hitting guns in the game , but they also have the option of high rof weapons like the tr. vs and tr weapons are alot alike when comparing stats, but vs have less recoil and no bullet drop.both faction do have less of a ammo pool compared to us,but i dont think having sub par weapons with more ammo is great faction trait. lackluster..... imo the few exceptions are worth having, mcg ,msw, armistest, nighthawk, tar or trv, lynx or jag. mcg , jackhammer, and lasher are very very different. flamethrower will be a max weapon....already tested it. |

Pretty absurd statement given that quite some people actually pay for the weapons.
You do know SOE is a company and as such is supposed to put in effort to receive money? I'm pretty sure that they make on average more money per player than they did in PS1. I'm amazed at how much I've spent on PS2 compared to what I would've with a subscription. And I bet you there will be numerous ppl just like that here and in the anonymity that is the online community. |

It isn't a MCG, it's just as rifle that sounds like a bag of nails being shaken about. It looks shit, it sounds shit and it plays like any other rifle in the game.
Why is it so hard to just give us good weapon design? The good model used to be in the game! |

We know why it was changed into the way it is now, we've known this for a very long time. Whether or not we find that acceptable is another matter.
Edit: I do agree that there isn't enough distinction between each weapon.

And reasons for that could be they either lack designer manpower to make every weapon unique or they do it on purpose to minimize expenses. Anyway currently there is no reason to spend 7$ on %same_old_generic_gun% beside weapon stats. I want every HA weapon in game to be underslung. I was so hyped when I saw early beta underslung lasher icon. And even Jackhammer would be so much cooler in the form of underslung scattercanon. Yes, you can't fire them from cover, but this limitation is a cost of great power of HA weapon. Not gonna happen? Well, too bad... I want more diversity in infantry combat, I want weapons to actually affect run speed of troops wielding them. Like +20% run speed for those wielding SMG or shottie (but effective range to be 5m with heavy damage fall off starting from 15m), AR run speed bonus - 10%(same DPS as SMG but no damage fall off up to 50m) and no run speed bonus for LMG's, HA weapons, sniper rifles. So your combat behaviour is based of weapon you're using. So you have to choose: speed or range. I want scopes with variable magnitude. I want secondary fire modes. And I'm not talking about weapon zoom, but fire modes that actually change weapon's behaviour. Like turning your fire into sustained lazer beam or 15m long burst of cloud of plasma or EMP bullets that damage your shield and your HP 50/50. Especially for Vanu. They are versatile ones after all. I want to buy more cool weapons, each one having their unique feel to fill up my weapon cache. So I would have a collection of guns, different one for every day, not just box of almost identical factory-made AK. |

I always thoutht that weapons looked the same because it helps with frame rate and puts less stress on game performance. But I feel ya evilhomer, they have flooded the PS2 market with different stated weapons that all look the same. But you have to remember that PS2 is free to play not sub, so they have to make money some how. I believe most vets have subscription (I do) so getting certs for new weapons aint a problem because of my xp boosts and stuff like that. So I spend a little less cash for weapons and its easier to grind it out for that shiny new toy. I mean putting out new stuff every month is cool its how the F2P platform is, its how they make there money. But I would like to see a little diversity within the factions weapons, not alot, just a little. I mean if I took the Solstice and the Serpant VE92 and set them side by side with no tags on them would you be able to tell me which is which. I would like to see a little ( not alot ) of diversity.

I can agree that a lot of weapons still need to be re-designed to make them feel and look different, but the OP picked the most unique weapon available to TR to complain about.
It's the only Heavy Weapon with a spin up and spinning barrels. It's 1 out of 2 weapons that have ammo counters on it (although mine hasn't appeared since the update... I want my digital ammo readout back!). It has a unique sound that can be heard across the battlefield (even if some people think it sounds like farting). It's an amazing weapon... I think it's actually boarder line too good honestly. High RoF on par with Assault Rifles and some SMGs. Decent ammo capacity. Extended mags or laser sights make the gun a beast. Since the update it performs well in med to long range without feeling super gimp at close range. Love this gun. It's my favorite Heavy Weapon in the game. The Jackhammer is far more situational and the Lasher is even more situational even though they did make it better... except the new sound is terrible (roll back to the old one please!). TR need a sound pass like the VS got in my opinion. The VS finally sound decent. They sound like their guns are scifi and have weight to their projectiles. The TR for the most part sound very bland. I know they use more traditional casings and ammo.. but they need more varied sound. Anyway, we all know Planetside 2 was rushed. That is why they are still having to release core systems and map designs to improve battle flow. I am sure they will eventually do more sweeps to the older weapons to make them more unique. The problem is time really... and players not being able to accept that things do take time. |

I do agree with the OP though. I look at the TR weapons selection and just scratch my head. The guns are so functionally similar that basically I'm just buying the gun that gives me the most attachment options. "Ooh this gun has a .5 difference when firing from the hip but can't take a laser sight, yippy skippy!" Which is almost always the NS guns so I'm not really taking advantage of TR benefits. |
