Im just wondering since I know Planetside 2 was partnered up with NVIDIA when it first came out and even has Physx...So maybe they won't since NVIDIA
might not like it. However since it is coming to the PS4 which has an AMD video card, and since Mantle is getting hyped, I am wondering if they are gonna work close with AMD to get mantle implemented to Planetside 2. Im thinking about buying a video card so I would like to know, from what I heard NVIDIA seems to have the most stable/better drivers for PS2 as of now but with the PS4 coming out, I feel SOE is gonna learn a lot about AMD video cards/maybe implement mantle. Also I know Mantle isn't AMD's, I believe anybody can use it but Nvidia so far doesn't. Anybody know? |

The Mantle is AMD only, afaik. Although there's certainly the possibility of Nvidia using it in the future. Mantle also isn't meant to be used on the consoles, from what I understand there's no real point. Having read up on it a bit more it seems like the goal with Mantle is to make PC development easier by making it more like console development.
I don't see them trying to implement Mantle support anytime soon though. It should certainly boost the performance for ATI users if they do end up implementing it. Personally I hope the whole industry adopts Mantle, if for no other reason than to break MS's DirectX monopoly.

SteamOS support would be welcome to the game. Rome 2 total war got it!
I think they should remove physics from the game, it is a cancer to me to see a feature not available to lots of players of the game. When ati develop something, nvidia can use it, like msaa, when nvidia develop something, they make sure Ati will not be able to use it!

PS2 won't be coming out for the PS4 until some time next year, so no.
Not sure how they are going to be advertising it on the PS4 itself.

Even in an older game like SWGEmu there is noticeable hitching in Debian Wheezy 64bit (3.12 kenel, 331 nvidia drivers, XFCE desktop), while there are no problems at all in Win7 64bit on the same desktop computer. Disappointing, because I use Linux 99% of the time these days, but it only takes a few minutes to boot into Win7. Debian loads to the desktop, ready to use in less than 12 seconds, including the time to type the user name password... |

2 years ago I would have said that Planetside 2 couldn't be on a console.... Both consoles run Orbis OS. AMD is attempting to cut out our dependancy on Microsoft DirectX by creating Mantle. SteamOS is attempting to cut out Microsoft all together.. using Mantle instead of DirectX. So.... going to say that I think Smed will come out and announce PS2 on SteamOS sometime next year. Just going to call it now. Sony already isn't using Windows to run PS4... and is using AMD specific hardware. Nvidia was forgotten in the console war and if AMD Mantle lives up to the hype on what it can do for AMD video cards.. then they could be in a very bad spot soon. Good thing Nvidia are investing in making a hand held |
